Hey guys... I was lookin around for an intake and found a site that sells the type-s intake. Those of you who have one, how do you like it? Those of you who don't have one, any inparticular reason why not? Lemme know what you guys think.

Um the only reason IMO to get the type-S intake is if you dislike the loud intake air sound that other intakes make (as I do . . . see sig).

It does provide a little more power in the midrange from my experience

Better throttle response - gives you a little power down low. Wish I still had a pic of that old dyno sheet from PreludeOnline . . .

That large air chamber really does work - builds up kind of a "charge."

Top end is the same as stock. It's a nice option if you don't want heatsoak from a short-ram and don't want to run a tubular cold air system. Nice and quiet - just a little throatier - unless you take out your resonator. Gets a from me.

There's someone on SHO who has the type-s intake. From what I understand she really enjoys it. If I think of her username i'll see if I can find a review from her for you.

Well I looked for it and apparently her review was in my imagination. But she did post some comments on it which i'll show you here:

"personally think that the Type S intake chamber is A Whole lot better the an SRI. It gives you alittle more low end torque due to the wider chamber on it. The noise part is quiter then a SRI, but louder then a USDM stock intake."

"I bought the chamber off Jdmland.com. I like the chamber alot!"

a difference that could only be noticed on a Dyno...

waste of money IMO, unless you get a big stiffy over JDM stuff...

Exactly, grow some effing ***** people. You put a loud exaust on your car yet your worried about a intake sucking noice. That's like ordering a number 5 combo from Wendys with a diet soda. The gains from a SRI are more noticable top end, then the type-S low-end.

Be patient, it is worth it!

My set-up while trying all three intakes: Mugen header, Mugen Exhaust, K&N drop in filter, no resonator (does not apply to AEM)

In comparison to an AEM cold air intake, there is a substantial difference. It makes more useable power across the entire powerband of the motor. More midrange and at least the same power at the top end and it is quieter by a lot. I have been building my car to be a weekend warrior that doesn't punish me when driving to and from track events. The Type S intake is quiet as stock on the highway, but is a little deeper sounding in VTEC.

A couple of years ago at GingerMan Raceway, a roadcourse in southern MI, and a track I am very familiar with, I tested the AEM vs. stock with no resonator. The AEM seemed to have pulled harder at higher rpm's, but lagged between 5200-6500 rpm which where the oem intake felt better. Running the stock oem intake yeilded lower lap times because I was losing more time pulling out of turns than I was gaining at the top end with the AEM. My speeds at the end of the straights were higher with the stock intake.

After installing the Type S intake, my times went down even more, and my top speeds went up 2-3 mph on the straights, which is significant. The Type S improved midrange power over the oem intake and seemed to match the peak power of the AEM. In addition to the increased power, the Type S intake was quieter and smoother than both the oem and AEM intakes.

Well worth the money in my experience.

are you running your type-s without the resonator? or with it?

Is it not the case that a CAI or SRI will flow more air than ANY stock intake & filter, and therefore you would need to tune before you see any significant benefit?? This may be why a Type S intake gives better results on the same maps?
