Default So I custom mounted some CF aero mirrors on my 4th gen--

EDIT: Fixed the pics because we-todd is down and I had an inquiry about the pics

This is certainly not the most cost effective mod, but I think I've done almost all of the cheap weight reduction stuff. Overall I'm pretty happy with how these came out, but I'm sure there will be some mixed feedback....

Got the mirrors from Evasive...$130 I believe.

Ordered a 12' x 12" sheet of CF from lighterfaster.com.

Found these bolts at Home Depot and they were pretty much the perfect fit for what I needed. I just had to paint the heads black.

Drilled the holes I needed to mount the mirrors and plates and mounted the mirrors.

I ended up losing about 10 lbs and reduced aerodynamic drag.

Comparison shot...the CF mirrors show the same view as stock because they're concave, it's just smaller.

Finished-

As I said, I do expect some mixed feedback

That's some nice DIY work, in my opinion.

It's creative, lightweight, and looks good. Pretty cool.

Looks good!

Im wondering if TSX mirrors would fit the Lude. I am after auto dimming along with defrost (for winter).

I'm not a big fan of the color of the car, but overall, the mirrors look good on the car. Good work.

Yeah, it's the worst paint job ever, really (and you haven't seen the back and the driver side). Ford blue rattle can paint

how did you get the CF triangle to stay in place (other than the bolts) any adhesives?

lol, i've said it before and i'll say it again, it reminds me of finding Nemo's little fin... paint it orange and white stripes, lol...

nice DIY pics...

oh forgot to mention, its not concave... its convex...

Thanks Edgar, it's just bolts and a little bit of foam, but it's mostly just the CF against the stock window rubber and it worked out pretty good. I was going to use more foam so there wouldn't be any gaps or anything but I didn't need it.

I started typing convex and I was like......"Hmmmm...maybe it's concave?....ah screw it, I'll just guess".

I'm really diggin' that DIY job, looks good!

I have one recommendation that would make people who see it think it came from a company: black rubber lining all around the edges so that it's sealed up against the outer edges of the door/A-pillar.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. As soon as I can get my hands on the right kind of rubber trim I'll probably take them off stick the rubber in there....it just fits soooo close it would have to be really thin rubber.

I wonder if the black rubber trim you can buy for the door edge would work? I always see ads for that stuff in car magazines, a couple strips of that should do it.

i second the rubber lining...
or cut the edges about 1cm to snuggle it a bit further in
and that would conceal the edges without using lining...
just a thought...

2 projects back to back, damn... you get the gauges, then
the mirrors, tomorrow you do your clutch lines, lol...

makes me wanna get to my car and start working on something...

I think I need it to be really thin, like 2-3mm thin because it sits almost perfectly flush with the door trim already. Although I wouldn't mind it sticking out a little more to be even with the body....

Cool...they look like the little Formula 1 mirrors. Let us know if your highway gas milage improves. Remember, it's all about "frontal area", "frontal area", "frontal area".

Very F1-looking. Aesthetically, I don't dig 'em. Functionally, I think they're the dog's bollocks.

On the custom job and creativity!

Not likely the actual mirrors as much though, but on the car they don't look that bad...

It's all about the use.. And the driver's opinion..

Thanks for the comments, I figured these wouldn't score high on the looks factor, but the function makes up for it to me.

I hope no one ***** with these because it took my like a whole day of driving to get them just right.

I have some more projects waiting to get done (FULL SS clutch line, Innovative mounts write up, and I'm always getting closer to my turbo setup) and I'm going to try to post up stuff on those, too.
