Hey, I was wondering what is the problem with MSD? I bought my car about 3 years ago it already had a H22A swap from hmotors and it also has MSD SCI ignition, coil and wires. I have not had any problems with it. I keep hearing that they are not very good though. Should I take it off the car?

In my personal experience, I have had 2 aftermarket ignition boxes randomly die on me. My MSD box just died one day and I had to push my car through a stoplight and try to park it It was on the firewall so the heat should not have been too bad, and then once I got it all removed I did not notice any difference.

Still doesn't help with mechanically over-reving your enging.

My rev limit is set a little bit below the max rpm so it is pretty safe.

well mine used to be under the hood. me and a buddy swapped the dash from his wrecked lude. it had a passenger side airbag. it had already deployed when he flipped the car. I have the box installed in that location. If I were to remove the box, what wires would need to be changed back? specifically, what wires at the distributor, I think thats all that it connects to , right? and power and ground of course.

If you accidentally shift into a lower gear going too fast, like a 3-2 shift when you thought you were going 3-4, that spark limiter isn't gonna do ****, and you'll be at 11k rpm before you know it.

There's nothing, except caution, that can prevent that though, so don't fret

Just take a look at the wiring instructions for the thing, it should be easy enough to figure out.

well I do not have them but I think it is just a couple of wires under the distributor. They are the yellow and black ones, right? What about the smaller blue wire. It goes to the white wire on the MSD. I think that is the crank sensor wire.

Not True - I did that several times before and the limiter ALWAYS kicks in right on. When I get the car running in a little bit, I will perhaps make a short video clip you can see it. This is one of the reasons I keep the thing. I have the SCI-L btw.

Hey dude, listen.

Wheels are locked to axles, axles are locked to transmission. Clutch locks transmission to engine. You shift into wrong gear, and let the clutch out, engine goes to rpm necessary for that speed. End of story.

Come on man...I don't think you're understanding. A mechanical over-rev cannot be stopped by anything electrical. It's the ground turning the wheels turning the engine and no ignition box can do anything about that.

If you're going 80 and you downshift to 2nd your ignition box can't do crap.

Yeah I know this but my ECU does not have this because it was chipped without this option and I am using the SCI-L. Besides I got the MSD for almost nothing

LOL, not ashamed to admit, when I was FIRST learning to drive years ago, in my first car - a Ford, I mistakenly panicked when the throttle cable got stuck WOT and shifted into a lower gear - redlined the crap out of it for maybe 3 seconds and it spun a bearing and CRACKED the crank pulley! Never seen a crank pulley crack from over revving before...
