Default Question about CAM Gears

Quick question.
When cam gears are installed on an H22 Prelude, With Stock ECU, If you advance the timing through the gears will the ECU Still retard the timing, basicly doing nothing?

what the expletive?

if YOU ever touch your cam gears, you're toast.
You mess with ignition timing through the distributor - and NO, i won't tell you how, because you have a LOT of research to do. Do yourself a favor and don't mess with anything. ESPECIALLY the cam gears.......we have interference engines - so, if you mess something up, say goodbye. How would the ecu affect something thats strictly mechanical? Ask yourself that.....
Cam/valve timing is through the cam gears. So, to answer his original question - if you advance the timing, the ecu will change it back automatically- unless you jump the ecu first.

Who knows what kingpin is talking about, but anyway...

The ECU controls ignition timing (when the engine sparks). This is completely seperate from cam timing, which is mechanically set by the camgear-tbelt arrangement. So no, futzing with adjustable cam gears will not be compensated by the OBD2 ECU...it's impossible.

If you're still running on a stock ECU though the argument can be made that you don't really need cam gears though. They're usually most useful once internals start getting changed.

The same thing you're saying...
I told him the ignition timing is not controlled by the cam gears........I told him if he wants to adjust the timing and what not, do it at the distributor. But he'll have to jump the ecu first. I didn't think I was typing in a different language. And seeing that he didn't know that - i told him to NOT touch anything, especially the timing. And I also mentioned that we have interference engines - so if he doens't know what he's doing, he can/will mess something up.

Thank you Exactly the answer i needed...

And i know how to adjust timing through the Dist. but on an OBD2 car it will do no good there big guy. a STOCK ECU will bring it back to normal... Also our engines are not interference engines unless VTEC is engaged.

Thanks again Featherfire

Oh i'm sorry - i didn't know you mentioned that you had an obd2.

........thats right, you didn't. My bad.

So what the hell did you mean advancing the timing through the cam gears?......and you're saying the ecu will bring it back?.......hehe

Maybe I'm missing something here. Someone please fill me in.

Edit: Oh wait. So, you're asking - if you advance the cam/valve timing, will the ecu retard the ignition?.........those are key words you gota throw in there man. We can't read in between the lines.
