question: 300+whp centrifugal SC kit for under $3000 - would you want it?
So I was lookin' at a S2000 w/ the vortech kit and got to thinkin:
Consider that a centrifugal SC kit was developed for 4th and 5th gens for under $3,000, and said kit was sure to make over 300whp.
what would you be willing to part with?

in my own opinion, as kit with a centrifugal isn't going to be uber streetable, so get rid of it all, who cares
and where are you getting the 3000 dollar figure? do you know how much the s2k kit is, 5500 dolalrs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don't see how you would make a comparable kit for 3k
in my earlyier years i was planing on trying to stuff a smaller trim SC where the a/c is

yes well thats fine. the $3,000 is just to get more responses
why wouldn't the kit be streetable? You'd get a linear power gain all the way from idle to redline.

thats just the problem, its linear, and as soon as you shift, boom your boost level drops,
are you looking to make a kit? , or get vortech to do it?

I think Vortech makes some real nice kit, Its about time they made somthing for the Lude.
but personally i think the $5500 apx price would be a little overvalued

on the other hand, it beats 240 degree intake temps and a peak power gain at an RPM that you don't get anywhere near after 1st gear.
oh well, we'll see if it can be done

A positive displacement supercharger like the Eatons/JRSC has linear boost, a centrifugal supercharger does not.

Centrifugal superchargers produce great peak HP, but don't be blinded by the peak numbers. What you want is a good torque curve, good usable power say from 3000-7000 rpms. With a centrifugal SC, you're not going to have any power until at least VTEC, maybe later. You get way more punch for your money with Turbos. The Jackson Racing SC has good low end torque, but the lack of an intercooler ultimately hurts the potential gains.

What is the point of this post? No company in their right mind is going to go to the effort and expense of designing a supercharger kit for a car that isn't even made anymore, especially when they're only gonna sell for $3000, especially when customers think they'll make 300whp just bolting on the kit, and especially when there are much better options already out there (turbo).......there are few enough preludes out there that make 300+ whp, and most of those are built motors (not stock)
If I had a dollar for every lame post I've seen on Honda-Tech lately, I'd have enough to get a nice set of forged rims.....

Why would you run a supercharger in a Prelude? Does thermal efficency mean nothing to you?

actually i was doing alot of reading into vortech a while ago and their SC ar pretty efficent.
the only way i see a vortech blower useful is to find a very good way of cooling the charge and have the peak boost you want reached at an earlier rpm by using a different pully, and then bleed of excess boost up to what ever your redline is,

should'nt be too hard to figure out, turbos have it, why cant a supercharger. not sure i would want one, but i like the idea.

Why? Because the gears inside the certerfugal sc will be spinning over 250,000+ a minute and burn out. You have to limit the rpm of the sc unlike a turbo due to the gear/clutch pack inside of the housing.
