So I've been around preludes and the web forums since hondaprelude.com (forum name: crazy93si back then) around 2001, but I think it's time for me to sell my 1993 Honda Prelude Si. I really don't want to, but I've poured a lot of money into it, and it's just time to move on. Becoming more of a burden than a toy. Thing is showroom quality, runs like a dream, and I need some help on what you think the price should be. So you're opinions are more than welcome! I'll list it's basic features/mods:

Exterior:
- flawless paint job
- mugen style front lip
- WW RS sides
- accord rear
- jdm style headlights, HID lights
- fog lights
- jdm side markers
- cleared rear turn signals
- LED license bulbs
- carbon fiber hood
- Special edition Enkei rims
- brand new (less then 500 miles) tires

Engine
- new H23a engine (around 30,000 on the new engine), 170,000 on the chassis
- AEM intake
- header
- new magnaflow exhaust system

Suspension
- Neuspeed 1.75 springs
- front/rear sway bar

Interior
- Brand new (within the year) complete leather interior
- new leather shift ****, boots
- 94 console upgrade
- vtec rear sub port
- 5th gen prelude floor mats in good condition
- 94 speaker grill upgrade
- rare door/courtesy lights
- blue fuel and speedo lighting
- new speakers

If you have the stock parts still parting it out would be the best way to get back some of your money. But as is based on your description I would list it for $4500 and try to get $4k for it. It's hard to sell a pre-built car, everyone wants to build their own...

As a consumer I see:

- it's a 20 year old car with 170,000+ miles on it.
- that it was beat on to the point it needed a new motor.
- that it might be a 100% southern car that hasn't been destroyed by salty winter roads.

As a Honda guy I see:

- it's a 20 year old car with 170,000+ miles on it.
- that it was beat on to the point it needed a new motor and replaced with a (weak-by-today's-standards) H23.
- it doesn't look too much like a box of Uncle Bens.


A new interior gets you $0 because it's supposed to look like that. A wrecked interior only takes those $$$ away. Aftermarket rims are another big $0 because you would cut your target market down to almost nobody if you tried to sell a car with no wheels at all.

If I needed a car I'd offer somewhere around $2,500-$3,000. I agree with the quote above...parting the goodies is likely the best way to recoup some of your investment unless you get luck and find just the right buyer.

The car is not "ricey" by any standards, and the rims are actually the special edition rims for the 1996 prelude, made by enkei, so they're stock looking just not the standard 7 spoke Si rims. So it's still stock enough looking, I think mid 4's is probably a good estimate. Appreciate it!

It's not unheard of to need a new motor as a car reaches 200,000 miles. Some last longer, but some need new motors within 3-5 years of ownership.

And last I checked, 200hp and 164 lb.ft. of torque out of a 2.3L is still pretty impressive even by 2012 brand new car standards.

I say ask $5k and work your way down to around $4k.

The big killer to getting a top notch price for your car is that you replaced the H23 with an H23, if you had H22 swapped you could probably ask more.

As far as a new motor at 170k, these motors need to be replaced more often than standard Honda motors because the FRM cylinder walls wear down the rings and the H23's tendency to spin mains at around 140-160k. I wouldn't look at a Prelude with a new motor at 170k as beat on.

If I were in the market I would seriously consider your car for $3500-4000, as long as I could examine the engine bay for hack work.

My point being it is an extremely high mileage car. I hope he can get $4,500 for it but if it were me that was looking I would have turned away at that price.

And last I checked, he said H23. I dont know of any US spec H23 motors that put out more than 160 horsepower at the crank without boost or major engine work. A modern Nissan Sentra, Scion tC, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, and Toyota Corolla make nearly as much horsepower, if not more depending on the trim level, as the H23.

If you have the paper work for the motor rebuild then a soling $4500 OBO would be right for this clean ride. People must understand that you put in work and installed parts that never were meant to go in the USDM Si preludes. But if you don't have any proof to back that rebuild motor then its like it never happened just fact and don't expect to no more than $3500 for it.

clean lude, but no one is going to get back every penny spent on their car. with all the goods and bads listed, i'd have to agree with typemismatch and say somewhere between $3500-$4000.

The paperwork topic Is true and if u did drop it in yourself do u have the receipt for the motor. If I were interested in buying ur car and u showed me a receipt from like hmotorsonline or sumthing then I would feel better about the buy.
My cars not as clean as yours I just got it repainted the stock Milano red and rebuilt the stock motor h23a1 that came in my 93si and I have the receipt for 1800 for that motor work . So it makes the buyer feel better I had mine listed and was asking 4k firm and had a few offers but I decided to keep it. And everything is bone stock on my car with 160k and 11k on rebuilt motor u got the rims and hood and leather seats to top it off . The seats look great by the way! But if I were u . And u know how to (talk) u can get 5k for ur lude just sit on it for a min. If I can get 4 I know u can get 5 .

It legitimately says H23A. The H23A is a JDM accord wagon motor with stats extremely close to the H22.

If its the blue top, then 4k is a good price. What is a new h23a? NEW? With 30k, how so?

I think by "new" the OP meant "removed from a JDM car at around 30k miles".
