Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
What's the meme? Lifehack: tiny house, big garage.
If you're used to living in an apartment then what do you do with 3x the living space? My house is taxed based on heated square footage.
Go for quality over quantity. For smaller houses, inital cost is less expensive, taxes are lower, insurance is lower, utilities are lower, maintenance is lower, furnishing it is cheaper... Take the cost savings and expand the garage! That's where gearheads live anyway. Invest the rest instead of paying the bank interest on borrowed money.
That works if you're single. If you live with a woman then all bets are off. Women are irrational and want what they want. Marriage should make it a 2-income household at least and offset the expense, at least until children are involved. After that point you guys are on your own.

98, what are the bore/stroke/CR specs going to be? That all sure looks nice, Will it be installed and broken in before adding the turbo? Which Chassis Ol' Red or the new EBP?

How did I see this!
Whats up guys! Last time I posted to HT before a few posts today was over 2 years ago. I've been out of Hondas for a while, but just picked up a FB6 (2015 Civic Si) as a commuter. I've changed jobs a few times and now I'm doing real estate (big boy job). After the Prelude I pretty much switched to a completely different genre. I'm now married and planning a family. I know what you guys mean by having a supportive wife. Shes totally ok with me doing an engine swap on the Jeep. A lot has changed since I first joined HT as a 18 year old kid 11 years ago.
I'm glad to see a lot of you still lurking around. Blake, Its cool that you're still working on preludes and advancing your fab skills.
My prelude was stolen (and recovered) a few times before I sold it for $1000 including the rare BBS wheels that I had. I saw it pop up on CL a couple of years later with the H23/F23 hybrid still in the car. I was pretty proud to see it was still running.
Here are my two cars now:
The Project: Its getting built axles, bigger lift, bigger tires, possibly a LS swap (my wife is on board)

not sure on the chassis yet. ol' red is definitely out of the picture. with the space I am going to have with a new house/property, i will likely keep the car and just put it under a cover for one day when my sheetmetal skills have improved.

450k is cheap! Comparitively. We live in the Northern Bay Area, California. Looking at 600 easy for even 1800sq ft last I checked. Though my parents own an incredible, highly renovated house and have talked about giving us a great deal when they're ready to move out someday. Given that we are 32, and my parents are almost 70, I figure its 10 years before we could buy their house. Home ownership in today's world is tough. I don't mind our townhouse for now. But by the time I'm 45, I think that'd be a reasonable age to expect to own a keeper home by. We've talked about a smaller cheap starter house though. While we live comfortably, my fiancee and I also work lower paying jobs we love in lieu of higher paying jobs we don'r. Day to day happiness is a premium for us. I'm not one for material things anyways. Our new LCD tv was a fight that lasted 3 weeks. My side of the story is "look at the sky not the tv". She only won because I got a $600 bonus allowance on car parts in return. Haha. Compromise is the spice of life!
For some reason I thought it was worse than that in your part of the country.
Up here, or at least in the area I live in, prices have shot through the roof. My neighborhood is homes around 2200 sq feet, and we bought in 6 years ago at just over 300K, and there are currently 2 houses within a block of us asking nearly 600k! We need a bunch of renos to match them, but that is a work in progress. I think our taxes are lower, our property tax was ~2400 last year, but may be higher this year, as it is based on our assessed value, which jumped 140K this year.

2) I live in a 3 bedroom apt that has a drive way and now I finally have a garage for myself.

oh yea for sure your paying a lot more for a house than I would over there. Right now its better to rent then own a home in certain places.

Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
Yup, most of us have women in our lives now. Personally, I would never have settled with one that I did not get along with so well that most of our interests align so well, and we deal with things the same way.
The wife may not love cars, but she does let me have my fun, and has always known that we needed a big garage. The house space is sort of two-fold, we have a few pets, and starting a family, plus it is nice to have space, a yard for the dog to run etc.
If we had stayed in Denver, probably would have bought the house we rented the last 3 years there. It had an attached garage that we could get 3 cars into, and a nice big corner lot, with room to build a second detached shop in the back and still have plenty of yard. There was a "ranch" across the street, and a huge open space next to them, and realy chill neighborhood, without a bunch of the normal city restrictions, yet close to all amenties
The owners were bummed when we said we were moving, tried to get us to stay and buy it. I had made an offer 2 years before, which they had conveniently ignored haha.

What? What'd I do?
Everyone makes their own decisions.
It's easier to rent the nephews/nieces than it is to raise my own. :D

Oh there's no way I'd ever regret having kids. Well, kid should I say. The soon to be step-daughter isn't mine mine the way our son is. But still. Best thing I've ever done with my life. Though hmm.. renting out the kids. That may be a market inefficiency. I'm sure there's single guys out there who'd rent my kid to attract ladies at the supermarket. Will investigate

Haha my wife was concerned about the idea of me being a stay-at-home dad, until I reminded her that our grocery store is mainly populated by wrinkly old ladies, not hot milfs.

Hell, if I could be a kept man, I'd get married today! Clean the house some, do a little cooking and wrench on stuff in the garage the rest of the day, pork the wife at bedtime. **** that 9-5 and commuting ****. Children for me are a deal breaker though, I'm absolutely sure I'd raise them wrong and then I'd be imprisoned. I'm glad someone's having them though, we need a tax base.

While I was never huge in the prelude scene, I have been around for a while. My join date says 2002. I guess that is about right. I purchased my 94 in spring of 2001, after my 89 Civic Si Hatch was totaled. I joined the military shortly after buying my Prelude and it has been with me almost everywhere I have been. I did not take it to Turkey with me, by that time we had children and as we all know Preludes are not great family haulers. The prelude was in a parking lot accident back in December. Insurance total the car. We fought over the value of the car and lucky me I still have my TN residence and keep my cars registered in TN ($23 a year is a winner to me). TN does not issue a salvage title if the car is older than 10 years. I have forgotten some of the things I have done to my car since having it. If I am working on it now, I often run across something and I have to think why is this done like this. More times than not it will get redone, and bring it up to higher standards. Since getting Prelude we have also owned a MGB, WJ (Grand Cherokee) and Odyssey. The plan is to keep the Prelude until I retire from the military. Then it will either be sold or stored away and restored after the littles one are bigger.

Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
Haven't touched the car this year still. But lacrosse season is finally over, so maybe I'll have time now (Yeah Right).....
I took the cover off and stared at it.... thats about it. I have 5-6 large home projects that I NEED TO WORK ON! And - NEED finished before summer is over.
I still want to at least get the car on the road, as that's a short putt - but doing all the interior work etc I had planned may not happen. We'll see - maybe I'll get a fire under my *** about it.
Snapped a pic while I was in there.

Get on 'er Steve!
I am a bit baffled actually, did you do an abs delete by adding in a proportional valve where the abs pump used to be, instead of deleting all the lines and changing the stock valve?
Home projects sure do get in the way, I have a few on the go, as we are finally diving into major interior home renos after living in our house 6 years now. Part of it is a new electrical service, brought about by needing to feed a hot tub.
Well, going over the electrical shows huge needs, like a new service and panel to the detached garage as well. So I moved 6 years of stuff out of the corner of the garage to access the panel area in there, and all that stuff is now piled around the Prelude. Once the new panel is in, I will re-arrange all of that stuff, and hopefully continue to the point where I actually work on the car as well.

Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
That's exactly what I did.... been that way for years. I just rebent the lines to make it fit and mounted it.
I've been at my house almost 9 years now, I'm way overdue on a lot of things. Such as one bathroom has been a basically a bare hole for oh, two or three years now.... oops. My plan is to move in another year, so I need to have it done to be able to rent it.
I know that feeling - I'm out of room, the prelude has been converted to a shelf many of times.... at the moment its holding motorcycle parts as I had to put a new swingarm on my bike (long story).... luckily that project is almost done, just waiting for the chain to arrive, I ordered it one damn link too short....... wtf.

Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
Oh man, what a pain to wait due to one link!
Our house was built back in 1972, and the lady we bought it from had lived there since 1974, and not changed A THING. It was hilarious and scary at the same time. We are doing all new floors, a bunch of wiring and lighting, a whole new kitchen, etc. Oh and since we are expecting a kid in July, we are turning a bedroom into a nursery as well.
On the plus side, as I said previously in this thread, house prices in my neighborhood have jumped around 200K since we bought, so by doing the renos and upgrades, we are just adding value to the house when we sell.
Our other big hurdle, our work visas expire this summer, so if the renewal is denied, we would be rushed to move back to the US. Steph's dad is a Canadian citizen, so we don't have to worry about selling the house pronto, but coming back with a paid off mortgage and 200K to put towards a new house would be very nice haha.
This year I made the plunge and tried out for a major league box lax team, and made the cut, so I have been busting my *** with practices and games, we are leading the league so far, so that is going well! Sucks to have to keep with guys 10-15 years younger than me at practice, but oh well.

Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
Yeah - Its my fault for listening to the internet about the chain length instead of counting. Stupid internet.
Wow - that had to be a pretty awesome looking place when you moved in. I've seen houses like that before. Like the same pink or light green bathroom that was installed in 1960 still being used.
Damn - I wish my house went up 200k, hell, even 2k...... I bought in 2007 which turns out was like the worst effing time to buy a house.... but who knew. I've at least re-fied since then and saved some money and shortened my payment span. Is there any reason they would deny you? I would think it can't be as big a deal for a US citizen in Canada as say an Iranian citizen in the US, but I don't know the details of any of that.
Wow - really? What team? A few of my old teammates play up in Canada professionally. National Sport! Everyone thinks its Hockey.

Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
You have no idea haha, brown/ orange **** carpet, moonlight ceiling in the kitchen, gold vinyl handrail on the stairs, robins egg blue sink in the laundry, etc. My MIL joked that we should get it listed as a historic residence.
The team I am playing for is a Senior C team, the Calgary Irish, for Alberta we are the second highest level you can play when over 21, and the one level up Senior B has guys who play on NLL teams during the winter and such. In BC and Ontario they have Senior A which is pretty much completely NLL guys, and some split time with MLL teams or the national teams for field and box. Just not enough players and interest to have the A league in this province, as it takes a big fan base, and a lot of money. When we play field it is much less organized once you pass peewee, so the guys I play with compete in a few tournaments a year, mainly against university teams.
With our work visas, they are starting to limit how long people can keep renewing, but my wifes job is a "highly skilled" class, so she avoids most of the new rules. We have not applied for permanent residence or citizenship yet, but might as we will have a dual citizen kid.

HT is still a decent enough site.

Re: Old Timers, Come in here and update us!
Anybody here remember hondaprelude.com? That was actually my first forum to join back in the day!
I am still around here, too. I never have been a heavy poster, but I have always come around from time to time to check on things or get some advice. I am well into my 15th year of ownership of my 1997 Type SH. I recently had its 2nd timing belt service done at 140xxx miles. I have also bought a set of Function Form Type 1 coilovers, upper control arms all around, new ball joints, and Energy Suspension Hyper Flex master kit with front and rear ES sway bar kits. Basically a complete overhaul of the suspension. All this is by far the biggest change I've made to my baby in 10+ years. I still drive my car to work every day. My wife has gone through a 1994 RX7 (hell to own), an Evo X MR (really fun car, but $$), and is currently in a 2011 4Runner (in some ways the best of the bunch!).
I joined the Arkansas chapter of BB Alliance TB after a few months of unknowingly being stalked by them, lol. Great group of Prelude enthusiasts!
We will be relocating to Portland, OR in August, something we are really excited about! I guess that is about it, folks.
Happy 'Luding!!
