Need help on speeding ticket.

Check your local speeding laws. In Georgia, you are allowed to go to court and plead 'no lo contendre'
Pleading nolo means that you will pay the fine, and you won't have a conviction on your record. Your insurance company won't find out about the ticket and you will just be out some $$. When I did it, they made me take driving school and they reduced my fine in half. The only thing is, you can only plead nolo once every five years.
If you don't plan on speeding like an idiot anymore or getting a dui or something later on, I really couldn't think of a better use of your nolo.
Showing up to court and pleading 'not guilty' (appealing as you are calling it) they will pretty much laugh at you and then probably throw the book at you.
Since you are just a first-time offender (i think) if you show up, don't make excuses for driving like a jack-***, act contrite and apologetic, you will probably get the best results. You should still expect to be required to pay the full fine, however.
In short, plead 'guilty' or 'nolo' if it is available. Unless you have a really good lawyer, or don't mind paying the likely full fine and having your insurance find out about it, don't plead 'not guilty' under any circumstances.
All of this stuff is true in Georgia, so you should check to see how much of it applies in your state.

in WA if you get into an accident, DUI or wreckless when you get a ticket they will not cut it down nor defer it. i'm suprised the cop didn't handcuff you. if you go to court most likely they will not cut it down. sorry dude

haha lucky
Oregon just passed a new law thing/or is passing it soon. If you are going over 100mph- $1000 dollar fine, no appeals or anything. Not to mention they would arrest you and then tow your car.
Anyways I don't think that the "other cars were going that fast" excuse would work. It's just common sense now ****.
You're fucked deal with it

If you have an otherwise clean record go to court and ask for leniency from the judge, or a deferred judgement (reduced fine, no reccord, and 6-12 months of not getting caught doing it again).
If you have 15 unpaid tickets then you're screwed.
IMO tie up the courts. I hate how convenient it is to just pay and then get *** raped by your insurance company once it is on your record. Make them work for their pay. The system is a joke...

Dont listen to all these jerkoffs, they don't know what they are saying.
1) This isn't the right forum to post this, should be in GDD.
2) Driving that fast is stupid, but most of us do it, whether we admit to it on the internet or not.
3) To actually help you:
Get a lawyer. I cannot stress that enough. If you try and represent yourself, even if it's just to talk to the DA you are going to get fucked. The lawyer might be expensive, but if he/she gets the ticket reduced it will be worth it. You need to do some research in your area and find out who the right one is. This **** is all politics, if you find the right lawyer that sits on the right boards and is "in" with the state police and/or judges you are going to get your **** reduced.
You cant afford the insurance increase you are going to get if that ticket sticks. Also, if you represent yourself you are very likely to get your liscense revoked.
I got a ticket for 86 in a 55. In NY that is a 6 pt ticket with a $600 fine, plus my insurance probably would have doubled. I did my research and got a lawyer that has a good relationship with the state police. My ticket was dropped to a no points non moving violation with a fine of $75. The lawyer cost $200.

Re: Need help on speeding ticket. (98vtec)
well, 2am, 120, 650.
it definately was 2am, you were definately going 120, the only thing to whine about is the 650 .
its kinda tough to call since I live in WI and have no fricken idea about the laws in your state. The guy from Georgia(?) with the "nolo" sounds like something to check into.
In WI, its reckless at 25 over, no idea what would happen.
I do know that usually here showing up to the court case (for you it might be mandatory) and telling them your sorry and it was stupid and you won't do it again (or at least not get caught) the judge might give you a break and knock it down a couple bucks. But then again it all depends, if the judges ******* neighbor revs the **** out of his car at 3am in the morning, or he got cut off that morning by an import with a big wing and altezzas, you could still get stuck with your new unlucky number.
I'd say talk to people you know that have gotten speeding tickets reduced/dropped in your state and see what they have to say.

Re: Need help on speeding ticket. (thestonerhimself)
I'd say appeal...I'm from Mass, and have been in the courts a few times for tickets. With state troopers, they (usually) have the officer who pulled you over show up personally at court for your case. If he (or she), doesn't show up, the case is dismissed with no fines, possibly just some court costs. This is because of the ole "innocent until proven guilty." So, you have the right not to incriminate yourself if the officer doesn't show up.
However, sometimes the state police will send 1 person to represent all the cases in court that day. They will have each officer's notations, the actual citation, as well as video, if required. You can luck out here as well, if any of the paperwork is lost. Then they have no hard evidence against you...just circumstantial.
Otherwise, you show up, the cop (or representative) shows up, you plead your case, the courts say "too bad, pay the ticket." At this point, they'll usually ask you if u can pay the whole amount at this time. You can ask for time to pay the ticket, and that way you don't have to pay all at once. They'll usually give u 6 months to a year...however: if you don't pay when it's due, they'll issue a warrant for your arrest.
Hope this helps.

EDIT: Also, you could try the whole "some guy was driving crazy, almost hit me, and started chasing me" routine, saying you got really freaked out, and tried to get away from the phantom car. Prolly won't work if the officer asked you why you were speeding...This trick works well with females who get caught speeding. Pleading the whole "i was scared, please protect me" routine usually makes cops feel an urge to give the lady a break. Crying (for women) works well too...only if the officer that pulls you over is a guy. Guys almost always can't stand a woman crying, and'll try to do anything to get them to stop. Gonna stop now, since I'm getting way off track...
