My Prelude Build (K-swap)

My Prelude Build (K-swap)
I have always wanted a 4th Gen Prelude and when I bought my 93 Prelude Si I knew I had to do something different. After talking with Hasport I decided to go with a K-series a K24 to be exact. My friends say what I am doing is heresy, and that I should stick with an H-series but my goal is to do something different and this is new and different. I am doing the build in parts starting with the Wheels and Brakes.
Before Pics:
Brakes & Wheels (Part 1)
17”x 7” Motegi Track-Lites
17” Yokohama Prada-Spec 2
Rotora, 4-pot Caliper kit (front only, stock rear)
Rotora, 11” slotted front rotors
Rotora, 10 ¾” slotted rear rotors
Suspension (Part 2)
Tokiko, Illumina series adjustable strut kit
Tanabe, front sway bar 30.4mm
Tanabe, rear sway bar 25.4mm
Tanabe, front under brace bar
Tanabe, rear under brace bar
Neuspeed, polished steel strut bar
Prothane, complete car bushings kit (Black)
Haven’t installed these parts yet, but will post as soon as we finish.
Exterior (Part3) (except painting I will paint the car when I pull the old motor)
OEM style lighted rear wing (color matched to car)
Depot, black bezel housing, clear projector lens headlights
Spyder Auto tail lights - JDM Black
Haven’t installed these parts yet, but will post as soon as we finish.
Part 4 will be building the engine (K24), but we plan on starting on this in April. Well try and get the pics post ASAP. Hope you guys enjoy and maybe inspire more K-series Preludes.

Wow this is going to be badass...K-series prelude is going to be sick...I really like those trak lite wheels but I think 16's would have looked alot better.Keep the pics and updates coming

Good start, but just a warning ... this thread will get locked if you title this "My Prelude Build (K-swap)" and not include any motor build specs and/or pictures. Best of luck nonetheless.

Don't listen to your friend. Do a K-series swap and have fun with it. Your friend will wish he never said anything once you have everything up and running correctly

Re: My Prelude Build (skinnyboy)
Thanks all, to answer some of your questions. The engine will be a K24 and I plan going with a Garret GT35R turbo. I am planning on pushing 400+ hp. When I start on the engine I will have Sublime Speed Technology do the work on the block. They will sleeve it, rebuild the bottom end and flow the head. Still doing research on the engine and checking to see what will work best (i.e. cams). In April I plan on starting the motor. On the 16” wheels we plan on buying 2 16’s for the front since they don’t make the Track Lites 15” wide enough for a descent slick. Not to mention they only weigh like 10 lbs. compared to the 14 lbs. 17”. If I like the look I can always buy 2 more and sell my 17”. I hope they don't lock this, I don't see why they would it’s a build in progress and it’s a Honda Prelude., isn't that what this site is for? Well I will post updates as soon as we finish the suspension and exterior accessories. Thanks for the support.

just informing you that in order for this thread to stay here, you need to add tech. Without tech, i cannot allow this thread to continue.

Re: My Prelude Build (98vtec)
you are embarking onto a very new scene for the prelude. Anything that you can document will make this thread not a "here's my swap, tell me what you think" thread and turn it into a "here's what i got, here's how i did it" thread.
understand?

Re: My Prelude Build (98vtec)
Any plans to actually race this car or is this another $10k+ setup that'll never see track time?
Preludes......starting to share something in common with most Civics......gobs of wasted money.

Right now this is what this thread looks like to me.....
-Hey guys I'm gonna put a jet engine into my prelude.
-I'll start the build by going with some black rims like everyone else......you know, so i can be "different".
-I'm going to upgrade my brakes to something that is still to small for my wheel choice even though my suspension set up is clearly for street and the only real purpose for this is bling.
-Here's a list of all the bracing i'm going to put in before i know how the new engine will sit in the car.
-The jet engine will go in just as soon as i can get some supporting mods like aftermarket headlight and taillights......
-Oh and i need a rear wing for down force because this jet will be so powerful, but in the interest of not adding to much weight i'll get a lightened one.
There is a lot of look at me stuff in a thread titled "kswap build"........and almost nothing about an actual swap that may or may not be coming in april.
please prove me wrong

Re: My Prelude Build (98vtec)
Gotcha, hmm..... Well after figuring out which engine I wanted to go with (this site was very helpful on picking between the K20 and K24 and which model to go with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_K_engine) I called Hasport to find out what they had and what info they could offer. Here is the link to their Prelude mounts http://hasport.com/shop/produc...d=175 .
Since I am sticking with the A/C and power steering we will need the pumps and brackets off the K-series engine. I will be using the K24 brackets for the alternator, A/C and power steering. But the power steering depends on if we have to get custom lines from the Preludes rack and pinion to the K24's power steering pump. (We are still looking into this). Another thing that Hasport said is that for now until they can get an all in one harness they will need the H harness to make a sub harness so that all the gauges and electronics still works. They recommend going with the Hondata K-pro, this is what they went with and it saved a lot of headache. The tranny mounts that come with the kit are for the 6-speed (the 6-speed was my selling point hehe). They also mentioned using custom half-shafts, I called the Drive Shaft Shop and they said they have a set that will fit the stock spindles. Still doing a lot of research though, but I will post any new info I get. If there are other K-swaps going on please offer your input too. Thanks.

Looks like you're going to have a lot of work ahead of you. But I'm happy that someone's got a thread where the can break it down for the naysayers.
The rest of you guys bustin' the OP's ***** give him a little slack. If wants spend the money on a K-swap then shut up and either support him or GTFO of his thread. At least it's different. WTF have you other guys done that's so great that you can criticise what the OP wants to do?
Given the potential of a K24 he won't have to work too hard for a lot of power. Good luck on your build guy,
Pirate

Re: My Prelude Build (christ0pher)
agreed, leave the guy alone. the op seems to be able to afford some expensive *** rotors and brakes. Odds are he will be able to afford what he is talking about so i am positive this thread is not all talk. I guess we will all wait and see
