Default My BB6 Prelude project... 56K, upgrade now...

It's a long read, but here's the story of my BB6:

Months ago, we had a customer come to us asking for an H22 swap in his '92 Civic CX. No problem, so we all got to talking, and he had a parts Prelude that he was planning on us using the engine out of. So he dropped it off at the shop, and we started looking at the car.

Supposedly, he bought it from a friend of his, that wrecked the car running from the cops, hit a curb at 60MPH, and threw everything out of wack. The interior was disgustingly trashed, and over all, the shape of the car was pretty bad. However, the powertrain was in great shape, perfect candidate for a doner car. So we pulled the engine out, and before the work was started on the Civic, we realized something... "Dude... This is a Type-SH... This thing has ATTS."

So to simplify things, we put the engine back in the car, I offered him a decent amount for it (I needed a daily driver anyway) so he could buy the correct powertrain. So everyone was happy.

We replaced the hood (Bent from the wreck), pulled the radiator support out (Pressed in about an inch), replaced the FLCA (Horseshoed from the wrecked), and drove it back to my house. I replaced the electrical portion of the ignition (Had to hold the key over to keep it running), and drove it down to Honda the next day to get aligned. Got a call a few hours later from my buddy, "Jordan, this thing won't align out man... Your sub frame's bent."

So the hunt began for the subframe, and after two months of searching for one LOCALLY, I finally found one about 40 minutes away at Honda Used Parts in North Myrtle Beach. Went and picked it up, along with black carpet, black center console and shift ****, floor mats, and new seat belts... Came out to a shade over $300 for EVERYTHING. Great deal.

So my friends down at Honda did a side project for me, replaced the subframe, the sway bar end link (Also broke in the wreck). And aligned it out DECENTLY. Good enough that it will drive straight. However, the tie rod is still bent, and the FLCA (From front crossmember to hub) is slightly bent, so it's still a tad bit out of wack. Drove the car home, went to work last night, got off at 10:30PM, and got wrenching on the interior... Long night ahead.

For the first time ever, the Type-R slept outside... She looks so sad:

The working space:

A few previews of what I'm dealing with... The smell permeating out of the interior is enough to make you dry heave on the spot:

Broken windshield thanks to previous owner's crazy girlfriend:

Interior. Hard to tell, but trust me, it's absolutely disgusting:

Center console... Ugh:

Broken Passenger Mirror from wreck:

M4dd JDM racing OZ wheels dawg:

Yay! Rounded lug nuts... Damnit, these suck to remove:

Carpet is the worst thing in the car:

Trunk area... Trashed:

After putting on some heavy duty nitrile gloves, I got busy pulling crap out of the trunk:

Apparently this car was owned by K-DOG Hurley... Appreciate the mess man:

Annnnnnd I found this... 4" pool of water in the spare tire well:

After some turkey basting/towel action. Some surface rust, nothing that can't be reversed:

Then I moved onto the interior of the car, starting pulling it. Medical mask on, gloves doubles up, and goggles (Mold's not good to let into your system):

Removed the center console to find this... This guy's a class act:

Good example of the mold living in this thing:

Pulled the rear seats out to find a plethora of mold under them...

Not to mention random *** things, broken sun glasses, necklaces, condom wrappers, Hell, I even found a bowl under the shifter box, not sure how it got there, haha. Honestly, at this point I stopped taking pictures for a while, it was almost unbarable to stay in the car, let alone take pictures. So I just busted my *** and got everything out as quick as I could, 95% of it is all sitting in the dumpster... It's bad. I had been at it for almost 6 hours (Had to put the Integra back together first, and get it out of the garage), I was tired, and it was 4:00am. So I took a shower, and went to bed. Woke up at 11:00am, and went back to work.

The carpet:

Everything else, haha:

I pulled the interior out, and this is how everything was underneith. Yes that is mold on the dashboard:

Under the carpet:

So I got to vacuuming out everything, unbolted everything, and moved it all aside to really get everything good:
[/URL]

Then, went at it with some trusted Clorox Disinfectent Spray, coated EVERY SQUARE INCH of the interior metal with it:

Bolted everything back, and then went at the dash, door panels, headliner, and glass:

Rear portion:

Trunk:

Then, I closed all the windows, closed the doors, cracked the sunroof enough for me to get my hand in. Turned the air on full blast, and recirculated the flow, put my hand in, and sprayed the Clorox for a minute, then closed the sun roof, and let it work all of the mold out of the system. 15 minutes later, no more mold smell coming from the air vents.

So, the interior is now mold free, and tomorrow, the front and rear seats are going into the detail shop to get steam cleaned, and shampoo cleaned. Hopefully get rid of that mold on the bottom portion of the rear seats. Then the black carpet's going in with the black floor mats, along with the black center console with my spare Type-R shift **** (Gangsta' yo ). Then I'm spending some good long time cleaning each individual interior panel with the Clorox. Putting all of that back in, and giving the car a LONNNNNG needed exterior detail. Painting the hood gloss black for now (Better than primer), replacing the broken rear view mirror. Using some compound on the scratches (Lots and lots of them) to get them a bit less noticable, and use some touch-up paint to cover some of the open chips so they don't rust.

Plans for the days to come after that:

Remove the rounded lugs (DAMNIT I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT KJDS:FKJOIJ:WSFJEK:LJDS), weld the cut exhaust back up (Cut to remove powertrain), put the new wheels on, fabricate mounting tabs for the headlights (Tabs broken in the wreck, can't find the pieces, so I have to make my own), and make another trip down to Honda Used Parts of Myrtle Beach to get a new Tie Rod and FLCA (Front crossmember to hub), as those are out of wack still, then get the windsheild replaced, get a new tag (Thanks for stealing it, ********), and that should be it!

After that, the car will be successfully brought back from the dead, and back on the road.

Updates coming as they progress, I'd say the car will be done within the next two weeks.

So awesome you're doing this man. Don't let a Eucalyptus Green Lude die, man. for dedication to bringing a car back from the dead.

Hope everything goes well. Then your Type R will have a pal to play with. LOL.

Thanks for the input guys... I was kind of wondering the same thing, how ANYONE could treat a car this bad? It's disgusting... Anyway:

UPDATE:

I'm debating between these two wheels that I have... 16" Bronze Rota GT3s... Or 16" Bronze Rota Circuit 10s... What do you guys think would go best?

I'm thinking the Circuit 10s will look badass.

that ITR pwns. Make that prelude more than just a daily driver. Make it something awsome to look back on. Now you have 2 of honda's/Acura's most special and rare cars.

^ Nah, that's for the Type-R. Once I pay the Prelude off (Not far off at all), I'll probably start modifying it. But for now, I'll just enjoy the stock reliability.

Great job. Someone should spank that bastard for abusing that car. You might want to try some Ozium like you did with the clorox spray. It is ten times stronger, its the stuff they use in hospitals. You can get it at Target, it won't disappoint, if that smell comes back.

Yeah, I'm hoping it'll look good. The Circuit 10s seem to fill the wheel well a lot more, so I think I'm going with those.

Actually, looked in the warehouse and found an entire case of Ozium. (My line of work is paper products and chemicals), I have a can in the garage in case the mold smell comes back. I think it's taken care of though... God I hope so, that was a lot of work.

Thanks, the Type-R's my baby.

After the Prelude's paid off, and the Type-R's the way I want her (Engine is taken care of, as is suspension, all that's left is: Repainted multi-stage Phoenix Yellow, Auto Power roll cage, Sparco EVO XL, Momo dished steering wheel and extended hub, OMP extended shifter, and that's it), then I'll probably do the following modifications:

-Black leather seats
-Ground Control coilovers
-Koni Yellow shocks (Same setup on the R, they're great)
-Skunk2 camber kits
-OEM lip kit
-AEM SRI
-JDM header
-APEXi World Sport2 exhaust
-35% tint
-Paint work (Nothing serious, just a few spots need attention)

And that'll be it. I'm not planning on anything crazy, just enough to make the car more fun, and enough to keep it reliable.

The Type-R, however, I'm shooting for 240-250whp once I start the build on her. So she'll be the monster, and the BB6 will stay as the sexy daily driver.

Once again, thanks for the input guys.

UPDATE:

I'm starting to put the new interior back in, and going down to pick up the seats from the detail shop later on, pictures will be up later in the day.

^ I agree, the tone tone deal sucks... Once I have some more money, I'll get some black leather seats, and that'll be good enough for me.

UPDATE:

Interior is back in, minus the seats. They're still at the detail shop (They closed for the day when it started pouring rain), so I'll have those back tomorrow. Pictures will be up soon.

What? I love the two-tone interior. And you should have just brought the car to the detailing shop in the first place just to see the look on their face. Good luck with the project.

Haha, the Prelude's getting all the attention right now. But once she's done, I'm doing the same thing to the Integra. It's not dirty, I just want to tear it all apart and give it a deep clean.

Haha, I really thought about it.

UPDATE:

Interior is in, and here are some pictures...

All the interior panels soaking on Clorox, ready to wiped down and reinstalled. Whenever I would reinstall each panel, I would soak the back of the panel in Clorox, just a little added protection against any mold returning:

Looking good... Nice and shiney:

Rear portion reinstalled... New seatbelts as well:

The new carpet, new center console, and spare Type-R shift ****, all installed:

The car's made leaps and bounds over the past two days. I'm VERY pleased with the progress thus far. Tomorrow's tasks:

-Pick up/install the front and rear seats
-Get started on turning out the lug nuts
-Pick up the new lug nuts
-Swap the new wheels on (Rota Circuit 10s)
-Install the new passenger rear view mirror

It's looking like tomorrow's going to be nice and sunshiney out, so I'll probably pull her out and give her a well needed bath. And start working on compounding some of the scratches, and try to get her looking a bit more presentable.

By the end of the week (Tomorrow's my last free day, school and work has taken over the rest of the week, so time's tighter), the headlights will be retrofitted and installed, the new windshield will be installed, maintence (Oil change, air filter, plugs, wires, cap, button, etc) will be performed, the CV joint will be changed, the new radias FLCA/tie rod will be installed, and the car will be realigned.

After that, the car will be inspected (First time since 2003), the exhaust will be welded up, and she'll be on the road.

And when I get some extra money, I'm going to have the hood matched to EGP... Probably $100 or so, but I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

I'm pretty excited about getting it all done. Thanks for all the input guys.

UPDATE:

Turned out the broken lug nuts on 2 of the wheels. Got the easy ones out first, only took about an hour. I was able to get 2 lug nuts off the front right, leaving only 3 that need to be turned out. And I was able to get 3 off the rear left, leaving only 2 that need to be turned out. So I'd say another hour or so of work tomorrow, and the lugs will be turned out. Trying to get the new lug nuts tomorrow as well.

So the new wheels will be on tomorrow, if all goes well.

Setting an appointment this week to have the windshield replaced.

Everything's coming along nicely, I'll post some update pictures tomorrow.

Great job man. I have been restoring a forth gen myself. Completely opposite of what you got. interior looks good save a few flaws and a smell that i can't figure out, and the exterior is nasty. They painted flames on it with rattle can paint that is obviously not for auto use. not to mention the front end dammage and blown motor. I work on it ocasionaly and had almost given up on it but after reading through this i feel like getting back at it and finishing it off.

Good luck .
