Default My 97 Prelude motor is bent. Please help too rich too lean

Okay sorry the motor is not bent.
But I have a 97 Base with about 90K Miles
A few days ago It started running poor. sorta feels like its cold, but even after warming up, lacks power in the low end, and is jerky.

I changed fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, air filter, cleaned IAC whatnot.
Adjusted valves

Yesterday The Check engine light came on. After checking code it was 45(too rich/toolean)

Boggs bad at times. now what would you guys think, what should I try first. my mileage took a dump too.

I would go along with a faulty o2 sensor also.

Never had it go, but can imagine in some cases that it could be sending wrong readings to the ECU causing an incorrect fuel/air ratio, perhaps to rule the o2 sensor out, try borrow one you know is not faulty first.

im going to try that.
but usually a clogged cat means the car wont rev out to its redline smooth.
that seems to not be a problem.
the problem lies in partial throttle.

Im gonna try a new O2

Also a vaccum test and
a fuel pressure test
Anything else you guys can think of checking testing would be cool

Yeah, about your 02 sensor question.

An 02 sensor can still be bad w/o it tripping an ECU code, because as the 02 sensors gets older/worse the ECU will send more voltage to the 02 sensor than it needs, thus causing you to run realllly rich. When I had bad 02 sensors my mileage went down to 18. Now its around 30 ( on a third gen )

possibly fuel injectors/pump/filter. check your fuel system. my 2 cents.

edit: saw you changed your fuel filter. may as well check fuel pressure!

Okay so before buying an oxygen sensor, I decided to test fuel pressure.
It was okay...
So I simply unplugged the O2 sensor to run off the base map see what happens.
drove better than ever. Now I think I have found the problem. Just going change the sesor and hope it will be okay.
Thank you
Steve

Hi, I'm new and just wanted to give my question related to this message. I bought a 92 prelude two weeks ago and took it to the shop, they said it need a new throttle body and that there were all these sensors that needed to be replaced. When I called the guy who I bought it from he said that his mechanic said all it needed was an O2 sensor. Can an O2 sensor cause all the other sensors to go bad and give a check engine light? Also it has been idling high and shaky in first and second gear. would this be from the ECU sending the wrong signals?

Thanks

bad o2 will not ruin other sensors.
I dont think all of the sensors on the TB would go bad at one time.
Id say see another mechanic for a second opinion.

unplugging the o2, will help temporary, as your ecu will not see it and run in open loop, which means you'll be running pig rich all the time.
Thats the way iam running now, untill i chip my p28 on chrome and disable O2 alltogether.
