Looking to get a Prelude. Couple options I found!
Hey everyone, I fell in love with the prelude 2 years ago and finally as a student have the means to get one and work on it.
I want to use this car to learn how to maintain and work on a car. I would like to be able to do most of the work my self.
What do you guys think of these 3 preludes I found? The 3rd option is the most interesting and also the riskiest I believe. I'd like to get some advice before I jump head first into a bottomless pit.
I will be spending a lot of time here reading the threads and tutorials as much as possible but excuse me if I make mistakes.
Option one:
Honda Prelude 2001 SE
2001 Honda Prelude SE
240km on the body and 150km on a swapped engine.
Im weary about this due to the engine being changed. However, if I could get it below 4k I think the deal would be decent. I haven't had a chance to see it yet. What do you guys think?
Option 2:
2001 Honda Prelude SE
2001 Honda Prelude No accident!!!
170km seemingly original parts. No engine swap but a bit pricier and from a dealer. I was hoping to bump this one down to 4k. What price is it worth getting this at?
Option 3***
Now this prelude is interesting.
2000 Honda Prelude Coupe
112km on the car. It has been in the garage for 6 years.
Apparently the manager purchased this car and has been stubborn about reducing the price. I managed to get the price down to 5.5k. However, it has a after market air intake. Lowered 2inches, and also some paint flaking and what not but minimal rust. In fact, it has very little rust due to being kept in doors.
However, it being sitting for 6 years, being turned on once in a while (if they didnt lie) means I have to probably replace anything rubber and flush all fluids. How much would getting this baby cleaned up revived be. Is it worth it? How much can I do alone? I have little experience but am willing to learn and dedicate myself.

Re: Looking to get a Prelude. Couple options I found!
Welcome!
Smart not wanting to get in over your head. That said. With number 3 you'd possibly be looking at pulling the engine and replacing every seal. Possibly. If this is your first rodeo, I'd advise against that. Unless u have that much time and patience and willingness to learn. Lol
Car one: nothing wrong with a swapped engine. Ask for paperwork. I bought my 96 with a blown h23 and swapped in an h22. 5 years, zero problems. 300k+ miles on the body, good as new mechanically and electrically. Paints fading, though. Haha.
You want a strong platform to build off of. Sure, I would personally buy a mechanics special, but u want, I'd imagine, something that runs stellar and can go from there. U have to know what to look for. I don't drive a 5th gen so I couldn't really tell u exactly what to avoid other than the obvious stuff with any other car.
I would, however, suggest that if you're looking to spend time and money on a project that u find something with no rust. Something not modified, usually means it's been beat on. Take your time. It's a good hobby. Buying a project car is the fun part. So don't rush and make a mistake.
PS- 4th gens can be had for half the price and are completely overengineered.

Re: Looking to get a Prelude. Couple options I found!
Thanks for the advice! I'm already feeling welcomed. I did not expect such a detailed response!
That does put some of my worries to rest and I will try to get as much info I can tomorrow about the car with the swapped engine. I'll hopefully have a mechanic available to check it out as well.
I'll update tomorrow with details!
