Default Looking to buy a 2000 Honda Prelude

Hi, im looking to buy a 2000 Honda Prelude. It has a 2.2L DOHC Vtec, 5 speed, 122000 miles, it has no spoiler or any ground effects. Looks to be in pretty nice condition. Im wondering what somebody would pay for that. There asking 8 grand for it, im thinking thats a little high maybe. I would also like to know where do you find the paint codes on it. The dealer says its sliver but on tirerack.com the closest color says its nordic mist. Is there a website that shows all the colors they came in that year? I know some cars you get the paint code off the Vin #. If you have any advice let me know.

$8k seems a bit steep for that much mileage; check the bluebook on it. paint code is inside the driver's doorjamb if you get a chance to look at it or have the owner check it out. i think the paint codes may be somewhere in the faq's too.

Suggested retail is 8680 in excellent condition, Private Party is 6255 for good condition and and 6830 in excellent condition. This car is at a used car dealer so I dont know what i should offer them.

i'm not much for bartering, but i wouldn't pay more than $7k for that. dealers will always give you the worst price and generally won't know as much about the car compared to buying it straight from someone else.

Ya, dealers rape you on price. Ive been looking for one of these cars for a long time and there hard to come by and then when I find one a dealer has it. Does anyone know of one for sale around the Sioux Falls South Dakota area?

This dealer has no warranites on it. Sold as is. I havent even got to drive the car yet because the day I went to look at it, I called them before I was going up there and then he said he took it to the shop to have some new spark plugs put in so I dont know if its a piece of **** or what. All the reviews i have read say they are great cars. The color isnt the color i really want either, its the crystal blue met.

Stop! Look for the model/color you want from a private seller. You'll save thousands of dollars, plus you'll know exactly what you're getting.

Thats the problem is there aint very many 5th gen 97-01 preludes around my area. The ones there are people arent selling them. I havent even been able to really look at this one or test drive it at all, just pictures on the internet. Its been at the dealer a really long time so i think they would deal on it. I think i could get a private party price on it.

The paint code for Crystal blue metallic is *B91M* (available 99-00 only)

look at the market value of preludes, 122k should be in the 5-6k region easily..

have you considered traveling for the lude. There a quite a few out here in Cali and Texas might be a better bet for you being in SD. Lots of preludes in that area as well. I live in Cali and was going to sell mine, but since we have a influx of them the demand is low so i couldnt get much for it.

With 122k on the clock you are still good, I have had mine for 10 years and haev 219k and never had any serious problems other than a little but of burning oil but to expect from high mileage.

I really want to find one around here, there asking 7995 for this one but the most ill maybe give is 6995, do you think that is overpaying. Considering there arent very many for sale ludes that i have found around here. Im starting to really like the color the more I look at it too now. I thought the miles were still pretty low for a honda. Blue book value is 8600 for one of these cars in excellent condition.

Seeing as I paid over 27K 10 years ago I would say anything around the 7-9K for a average mileage lude is acceptable . One thing you dont have to worry about is these cars braking down on you, they are very reliable. If maintained they will last forever, hence my lude still rolling strong and no major issues..
For a 2000 lude in good shape with 122k i would pay 7K. I know even with mine having 220K i think the private party resale was still around 6500-7, but location is also a factor, we are over saturated with prelude here in Sacramento so my value will drop compaired to where you live in Souix falls where i bet Trucks are a huge seller and maybe AWD cars since it snows there alot!

Ya, trucks and AWD cars are a good seller up here, I called them today because I still haven't got to see or drive the car cause they have had it at the shop. There putting a new distributor in it. What problem areas have you ran into with yours? Ever review that people say about them say they are great cars.

Well I have had my prelude for 10 years and im the orginal owner. I have hot had anything major ever happen to it yet, had some issues but due to it being 10 years old and haveing almost 220K on it.
I have done all the maintienance religiously and have always stayed on top of things esp oil changes etc. . It still runs like it did when I got it. Things that i have noticed in other preludes that can be problems when not taken care of are the cooling system, compression can deteriorate if car was abused and car MPG can be off if the emission system, spark plugs, distributor etc is faulty. If you purchase this Prelude, i dont know if they are going to have records of maintienance but after you drive it and inspect it, you can get an idea of how the car runs. It also wouldnt hurt to take it to a honda dealer or your mechanic and have them do an inspection on the vechicle and see how everything works out before you make that purchase.
