Default jdm h22a swap complete (few questions)

So I had a local mom and pop shop finish up my jdm h22 swap because i ended up starting classes sooner then i expected and funding was very low.

Well anyways of course they didn't wire up the vtec , i'll be knocking that out this weekend. I went under the hood today to look over everything thing and...

First thing I noticed, the internal coil distributor setup is still there...? Instead of swapping it over to external they just threw the external coil from h23 and plugged it into the wire harness then left it to hang around. Should I left it alone? I don't get the spare parts till monday that they didn't use from my h23 and I plan to convert to external coil because i went through hell trying to find an internal coil dizzy cap, people at the auto parts store looked at me like i was retarded saying NO prelude came with an internal coil setup.

Also how long is it okay to drive without the downpipe o2 sensor ? It's quite hard to drive without it as it because running headers only is loud and the car hesitates pretty bad (dizzy cap has a broken nipple) but will be going into the exhuast shop on monday morning.

Everything else is great though!!!

you can find a internal coil dizzy on ebay but i think you have to buy the whole dizzy and its the jdm dizzy thats why they were kinda confused but i think a newer accord cap has the coil inside the car to but not to sure on that. if you are getting the exhuast done on monday i wouldnt worry about it just try and keep the car parked 4sure though.

Hopefully the missing O2 sensor and the unwired vtec is the cause of my limp mode problem, Any other suggestions about the dizzy setup the shop did?

I'm confused. Why didn't they just swap the dist. and external coil from your H23 over to your H22 and called it a day? Then you don't have to worry about the unique dist. cap.

That's what I said but I didn't want to start arguing with the manager (Me and him had a bad start), I was in a hurry of getting the car out of there. But I wanted to know, is it okay for it to be setup like this? I do have a CEL which I plan to pull tomorrow and the ecu is in limp mode (seems like once it hits 3k it doesnt want to go anywhere) because the vtec isn't wired and the downpipe isn't on which has an O2 sensor so I can really pinpoint problems just yet until I get some cel codes.

Right now it's parked in the driveway until confirm everything was done right. I have to go back up there on wednesday or so to pick up the h23 motor they pulled so I can switch the dizzy so that it is officially an external coil setup

I have another question, The motor didn't come with the h22 down-pipe, I am crapped out for cash so what modifications would I need to do for the h23 downpipe to mate with the h22 header?

Anyone know about the downpipe question? I am torn between taking it to an exhaust shop or trying to do it myself. I don't have jack stands so I would have to call a friend to bring it but I dont want to make him do all that if i can do anything with a drill (maybe holes on the flanges need drilling?)

Hi My son just did a swap on a 96 prelude. He replaced the original engine with a 2.2 vtec, now he is going nuts trying to get spark. He replaced the oil pump, and the crank sroket and installed a crank sensor. Are there any wires needed to be interfaced with the computor, or any other tricks he has to do. Thanks Piper180

Read the FAQ, but I would check the distributor/wires/sparkplugs/etc.

Is it USDM or JDM?

Anyways, I decided to just order some ebay header for the time being. H22 down-pipe bolts to the H23 cat with no problems correct?

i was going to say just get a used oem one; most people off them for like $20 and make the same (if not better) power than eBay crap, but oh well. as you have probably figured out, the h23 has a different port/flange pattern than h22 so it wouldn't have fit. not sure on the cat bolting up, but i would assume so.

check all connections and grounds to make sure everythings operating correctly. i think driving it like that won't do any harm but for sure an o2 sensor wouldn't throw your car into limp mode. pull the codes and report back.

Pulled the following codes earlier today

21 - VTEC Selonoid (Was expecting this CEL)
41 - O2 Sensor (Also expecting this)
17 - VSS (Has been dead for a few months )

I needed a cap and rotor for my H22 swap too, somewhere on here it said just to grab one for an acura integra b18c, they had internal coils and i havent has a problem since. on top of that integra parts are usually cheaper in my case which is also a good thing.

Awesome, I've read that also somewhere but when I was at the auto parts store and they told me they had no internal coil distributor caps. I had brain freeze and couldn't remember exactly what motor it was.

ya, go in there and since they know you are looking for an h22 they are going to give u another strange look, just ignore it and take it out of the box and you will find exactly what u are looking for. i think any integra motor will work but just get the gsr motor

I don't have any personal experience with this, but I would imagine if the car has no idea how rich or lean the mixture is, it would throw itself into limp mode as a safeguard. Just like it chokes without a knock sensor.

Bought a D16Z distributor cap and it bolted on perfect. So prelude people can add that to their list of internal dizzy caps.
