Default Im thinkin of buying a prelude but dont know if its mielage is too high....

I am thinking of buying a 1998 Honda prelude sh that has 110,000 miles on the engine. The car is priced at about 7,000. Can anyone tell me if it would be a good deal.

Have a mechanic take a look at the car check for how bad it burns oil. Also check for the regular 90k services timing belts and what not. How is the body? I mean if the cra was maintained well, the deal isn't bad, but not the best. I know people have bought a prelude with like 60-90k for around 7k. So you might wanna wait. Just so you know if you plan on modding don't get an SH go for a base, they are easier to mod.

With proper care the motor will have 20 birthdays.

The Prelude Type SH has a ATTS System. It will not be something you want to have if you're planning on Boosting the car.. The ATTS System is only able to hold so much power/torque then it is useless.

Check the FAQs for info on the ATTS System, or search on Google.

On the mileage, 110,000 miles is nothing. If taken car over, they should easily last 200,000 miles, and there are many guys on here that have well over 200,000 miles.

if you turbo an SH you lose ATTS because you need OBD1 to tune unless you go standalone like eManage Ultimate or AEM EMS. Also, you lose ATTS after ~250whp (supposedly, but not really proven)

x2.

If you plan on modding such as a turbo get a base. They are a lot easier to work with. Just research, there are plenty of topics on here about this.

I only issue they really have on the 5th gen ludes is the use of oil...The use of the silicone impregnated cylinder walls kind of hurt them when Honda thought this would be a good thing. There are actually updated piston rings that we can order directly from Honda's tech line specialist to help alleviate this problem again. Other than that I would def go for a base model Lude.....

Yes i know about the ATTS system and thats why i want to drive the car for a bit and then do all the work with the engine. I read alot of stuff about this engine and i know that the ATTS has to go if more horses and torque is an option. I dont plan to work on the engine until i have time to do so and i dont plan on workin on a car in the winter.

If you plan to do a lot of engine mods and tune, get a Base. Otherwise, the SH, it's ATTS and different front suspension are great. After I sold my 92 lude, I specifically looked for an SH. My 98 puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it, esp the corners.

Definitely, get a compression test done at the minimum, before buying the car.

110k is nothing. I bought mine with 130k on the motor. It is now at 155k and still running strong. I haven't had any problems out of the motor.
