How good are oem axels
I'm in need of some cv joints and would like to know if oem ones would hold up cuz my engine will put somewhere around 230whp.

Re: How good are oem axels
OEM axles are the best for the money. I know some guys that are 400hp+ running stock axles.
I beleive md23vtec has been running stock axles for pretty much ever

ok but this is my question to that i broke a pair of dss axles in less than 3 weeks of having them. is it cause i am not preloading them and they break easier or what is the story. i acutally broke 2 sets of dss axles just there level 0 but still its a stock h22a1.

if your worried about them breaking, go to autozone or pepboys and buy a pair of theirs, they have a lifetime guarantee, just take them back if they break, i dont think honda warranties their axles like that, but i could be wrong

*note to mods: you might want to change the thread title to be spelled accurately for future searches.
having a lifetime warranty certainly has its benefits, but if you will be bringing them back and replacing them all the time, it almost doesn't become worth it.

Re: How good are oem axels
sorry for the thread jack, but since we are talking about axles...
so i was cleaning around the prelude today and saw that max weight it recommends inside the vehicle is 750 lbs. why is that? i first thought it was because the axles wouldnt hold up, but since now, knowing the oem axles are pretty strong why can the lude only recommend 750, and not 1,000 or somethin? is it because suspension? tire pressure? overall rigidity?
Just wondering, im not trying to cram 1,000 pounds into the car.

Re: How good are oem axels
The most common reason I have seen for the axles breaking is shock loading.
That is when the tires grab and let loose many times as you take off.
If the tires either grab properly(hook up) or just spin allot(burn out) don't damage the axles nearly as much as when they are constantly grabbing and letting go (hoping) .
You can break axles with stock hp through shock loading.

Re: How good are oem axels
Well the Max weight issue is BS. I have a 4th Gen and I ride with three friends who each weigh at least 220+ and we always go in my car. You do the math.
220 x 3 +150 (ME)= More than 750 lbs.
OEM are better than good. I ran into a curb going 50+ mph and bent the axles. BENT, thats it.
no split, break, or chip, just bent. I Replaced them and this accident was like 6 months ago and my car still runs fine and I also redline the car. GET THE OEM's...
