Default high pitch whistling noise while driving???

When the rpm climbs, the subtle whistling noise pitch gets higher. After I shift to a higher gear, the pitch of the whistling noise starts at a lower note again and gets higher as the rpm climbs. Any ideas? I just got my car back from a stereo/alarm/starter installation a few days ago if that helps.

is it coming from your radio or from the engine?

If it's from the radio then congratulations: YOU HAVE ENGINE NOISE!!!!
Take that bad boy back and have them track it down and take it out.

it sounds like ignition interferance to me also...the radio doensn't have to be turned up usually...it just needs to be on.

If they turned up the gain on your amp too high or if you have a poor ground then your new stereo system may be the problem. In this case the stereo needs to be on for the noise to be there, also turning on more electrical items will cause teh noise to get louder, usually. Turn on your headlights and fog lights if you have them, that will usually make the "alternator whine" louder. If that is the case it should be easy for the steroe shop to fix. If they don't know how to fix it then they suck and you can do it yourself by turning down the gain on the amp or rewiring the ground if necessary.
