Default Hesitation / Slight bucking.. + running hotter

1993 h23a

When I try to punch it (not quite full throttle) I get slight hesitation and slight engine bucking.. more noticeably when I brake or when slowing down I downshift to 2nd.. as the rpms drop the car bucks.

Again.. even worse bucking when I'm in first gear in a parking lot and let off the gas.. seems like either I have to be in neutral coasting or in first gear revving to drive smoothly around a parking lot...been going on for about a month and getting progressively worse.

Also noticed in the last month or so the car heats up faster.. I used to be able to drive around all day.. and unless it was 90 out.. the temp gauge would never even get to halfway.. now .. 50 degrees outside and after 10 -15 minutes of driving the temp gauge is halfway and stays there.. I don't know if this is cause for concern or not.. but since it seems to be running hotter than before it seems odd.

The car seems to run progressively worse the longer it runs.

I'm guessing 60k miles on the engine..115k miles on the rest.. at around 108k I had the following done.. Engine replaced.. New exhaust.. header.. intake.. dizzy .. sparkplugs + wires.. I think thats about it. Car has original transmission.. I'm hoping thats not the problem.. ANY HELP is appreciated!

is the check engine light is on solid? if it is i would pull the code(s) and go from there? i imagine the way your car is running the check engine light should be on.... hope that help you out at least where to begin...

Clogged egr could cause the hesitation and bucking at low rpms. That's if your running an egr cause you don't really have to since your obd1

I replaced my O2, and for a day it seemed to run alot better, but shortly after it started running like crap again. Not coding for 02 sensor yet though. I used a bosch 02 sensor though so dont know if thats the issue.

I'm guessing it has to do with the knock sensor. When I went to P28 ECU, I no longer have any bucking or hesitation.

I had this same issue with my H23 swap.

Check your vaccum lines and see if one of them is being pinched.
Then check your Fast Idle Valve and clean it out. Its bolted to the intake manifold in front between the head and the injectors.

My issue was a pinched vaccum line that I had routed under my throttle body, and I took my air filter off and when I put it back on I did not notice that the hose was being pinched underneath.

Start there and post up.

hmm, i thought mine was vacume related as well, since as well as it running shitty i couldnt get a solid idle at time. Ill look more into this, i have no egr on my prelude and the valve on the right side of the plenum which originally ran a hose to the air intake is exposed now as well, so i obviously had to re run stuff, so maybe i do have something off or pinched. My car still smells pig rich though.

##update##
I ran seafoam through my system, and it cleared up the system. Guess the injectors were the culprits. Now to figure out cold start issue : ) Really wish people would take care of their cars, being a second owner of a modified car sucks *****.
