Default Help! Transmission slipping?!

I just put my car in reverse and after about 2 seconds, i heard a pop. I checked to see if maybe an axle had popped out but everything looked fine. The car is shifting fine, but it won't move. I recently replaced the passenger side axle and it had been driving just fine the day before. I took off the axle and it seems that its slipping. What i mean is in the inboard part of the transmission, you can see the gear moving, but the axle isnt moving, its slipping. I'm not sure what the problem is or what to do or what to look at. Car is a 93 prelude vtec stick, has a 90accord tranny in it. please help! D:

Am I understanding this correctly: You have it on jack stands and putting it in gear with the engine running? That is how you are seeing the "gear moving"?

1. You shouldn't be running it with the axle(s) off bc your trans fluid is empty. It drains out the cv axle gear-holes. No trans fluid = bad. No trans fluid also usually stops the car from moving until you put more in there...I don't know how all that works.

2. If a gear is slipping, you should be able to see/fell the smoothed off edges on the axle or on that inner gear. We can't really help you with that one.

3. If the running-engine trans moves the gear (as ill-advised in step 1), that doesn't necessarily guarantee that your clutch is good. You may have enough clutch grip to spin a gear, but...when you try to move a car's weight, a bad clutch can slip.

Ah, no, i dont turn it on, simply turn the opposite wheel. but neither the axle nor the gear feels smooth or worn or anything. time to replace the tranny? Sorry if this all seems senseless

ok....if you are watching the gear spin by turning the other wheel, that doesn't guarantee that the clutch is good.,,,because you are providing the "motivation" for the trans to spin...not the motor.

hmm...possible bad clutch? I have never heard of a clutch making a "pop"...it usually just starts slipping over time more and more. But you say it will not move at all, forward or reverse??

Or you can reassemble, refill with trans fluid, and try to shift into gear manually on the trans to make ABDOLUTELY sure that the linkage is fully engaging the gears.

Sounds like you might have to take it apart a bit more just to check things out...I am out of ideas unless you have more symptoms.

I'll post some pics soon as I get home. I don't think its the clutch, but then again, I am the one with less experience. Ill do what you said and see what happens. The axle feels loose in the hole, it sounds like its slipping or skipping in there and if you tilt it downwards or put a bit of pressure on it, it kinda wants to catch but it doesnt spin like it should

idk, bud. You sure u got the correct axle? Might be 1mm too small diameter? I am just guessing, I don't have enough experience with the trans specs.
