help with faded red paint...
I know this really isn't prelude specific, but I can't get into the forum where it shoudl be.. but what have some of you used on your red ludes... my side mirrors are FADED bad and the hood is starting... someone told me not to use a compound b/c it would only pull off the clear coat and I would be %^&*(. any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Well if it's too faded you will need new paint. Use a good wax and it won't fade as much. But you can try using that Turtle wax that has color in it. I used it and it made little imperfections hide quit a bit. But it isn't magic. Just try washing the car really good with Dawn to get all the old wax off before you use it. The reason you do this is because built up wax can actually make the color look more faded than it actually is. Once you wash it with the dawn put on the color wax, buff it out. Then put on a 2nd coat. Then in a day or 2 wash the car again but with car wash this time. DO NOT USE DISH SOAP it will take the wax off. Now either apply 2 more coats remember don't put the wax on too thick each time. Then I would get some really good wax like I like Maguires Gold Class and put a coat of that on to get the wet look.

most of the paint on my car is the original 10 year old milano red. the rear bumper of my car looks like ****, the top is pink
I have tried all of those products mentioned, and probably then some. They worked maybe a little bit, but i was expecting way too much from it anyways.
so...im saving for a repaint, $1700 versus a $4 bottle at pep boys is obviously a bit of a difference, but...=/
kinda sucks to think our cars are getting towards 10 years old

Re: help with faded red paint... (Teen Heartthrob)
this is true... I forgot that my 94 (white) got a paint job before I got her, so it's only like 3 years old.
I waxed the red one today, and at the track, I saw my friends 92... I just THOUGHT my paint was shotty.. I didn't feel so bad afterwards lol

Its a little known fact that Honda cars that are painted red are painted completely differently than the rest of the colors.
On every other color the car is painted with tradition paint, usually in quite a few coats. Then the clear coat is applied
What makes Red special on Honda's is because the car is painted a shade of red and then painted with a red tinted clear coat, the clear coat is not "clear" it is colored. So when the clear coat wears over time, the color of the car can fade alot more than usual.
I will never own a red honda for that reason, its a poor painting scheme.
