Default H2B EG hatch vs 4g Prelude

OK, I'm going to warn you ... you're going to want to flame this post.

Disclaimer out of the way ...

Some history
I've had my 'lude since 2002, I love my 'lude, over the last 10ish years my 'lude has been a stock F22A, a JDM H22, and a fully [GE] built 470hp turbo JDM H22.

I bought all the parts for the turbo build, had a local shop do the assembly and a trusted tuner tune it. I enjoy it thoroughly, but ...

When the old JDM H22 came out I was going to sell it, unless I came across a shell to stuff it in.

Introducing the H2B EG.

Here is a car I found all the parts second hand laying around in friends garages and some parts that are just plain wrong ... ex Mountain Dew bottle for a coolant overflow ...

Needless to say the car has ... eccentricities ...

Last year the best time I posted in the 'lude was a 12.46@117, and the best time posted in the H2B was a 14.2 by a friend. So the EG is slower, much slower.

I recently upgraded to E85 and ITBs in the H2B, which made a ridiculous car even more insane.

The reason for the post is to note that I find myself driving the H2B much more than the 'lude and even my FG2.

Why?

It seems to me [opinion] that the EG is a much more fun car to drive. It bounces around more, it rattles, the idle is weird, it runs rich, etc. Given all the weirdness the H2B is a more fun car to drive.

I think part of my issue is that I am 5' 6" and the clutch throw is just a little out of reach for comfort.

To be honest, the ride in the 'lude is much nicer, comparable to the FG2 in fact, and driving it is much easier because it's still got power steering.

Flame away ... but don't forget I still love my 'lude

haha i just bought my 2nd lude finally one with a H22! pretty much waiting for one to fall in my lap and found a guy selling one for 1,500 and all he did was daily drove it. It's got plenty of dents and dings but i'ma get her back to what she was. That being said for awhile i had a EG with the H swap before it was 'simple' and man i totally agree i found myself driving that car all the time just the raw power of that motor being in a lighter car is fun as hell. Then my brother flipped it on some back road -___- so lol i'm glad to finally have an H, but boy do i miss my EG that thing was a beast. All that matters is we're still using the RIGHT motor

def agree with ^, as long as you're running the beasty H. My plan was to make my 5th gen the racecar, but then decided to go h2b. H2b should be running soon, and i'm keeping hte lude as my DD. Prelude is still a very fun car to drive,

I do still enjoy getting out on an open county road [which there are lots of in ND] and letting the boost rip in the 'lude.

BTW ... ITBs really test your throttle control on the street ...

Lol it's been awhile since I've talked to you, your little h2b swap I followed while I was over seas, I ended up doing an h swap on a 94 eg because of your build thread it made a little over 700hp on e85 I would like to thank you for the inspiration for my rediculous civic :D

Yeah i was going to build my prelude but after talking with you early on in your build I thought a civic would be cool.

Build:
H22a dart mid sleeves
H beam rods cp pistons 87mm all balanced
Arp hardware, stage 1 pro cams, skunk2 top end, s300, hondata coil plug retrofit
boost a gear, id2000, 3 inch piping 6766bb precision turbo, neuking exhaust manifold
Mfactory straight cut gear set Etc etc decided to go e85 as well I would like to run a very low 10 but we will find out I'll send you some pics sometime When it decides to not rain! :l

14.2? i thought a H22a eg would be sitting in and around the 13.0 to 13.5 mark with a b series box..

Everyone makes the assumption that the motor is healthy ... my H2b is a bastard child built with spare parts, the fact that it runs at all is a testament to the motor's sheer force of will ... lol

My friend pulled a 13.7 out of it this last weekend

Either way 13.0-13.5 is much slower than 12.46 ...

To bad you live so far away I'd come show that prelude a thing or two I'm all alone here in indiana no one has import love around here. Just a bunch of high school kids that have farts cans and think there all motor d16 has 300hp. Love pulling up to the light and see one rev there car like there going to race me, then I two step them into submission lol. I broke another axle on the civic so I'm going to have to break down and buy a set of high hp axles. Then Ill be throwing some videos on youtube of the "eg plant" (looks like an egg plant colorwise).

I've got a buddy that does a lot of painting, he's going to help me pick out a color. Mine is definitely going to be a dark green of some sort, most likely a black base with a bright green pearl.

I believe I am going to be painting my prelude soon as well (4th gen vtec model) since my beloved prelude was sideswiped I believe it is time to restore it, I just have to deal with the common quarter panel rust and finding a drivers side door which is impossible in this state. I think that color would be sick though

Ha that's funny, i've got a couple cars that if I had to daily they would wear me out. I tried to find some middle ground and picked up a Type R but now i'm worried someone will steal it so i never drive that.

It's a never ending cycle that i'll never win.

Sorry to hear about that, but it's a good excuse to redo the body!

I'm lucky enough to live in ND, where stolen cars usually aren't a problem, and the empty country roads are plentiful!

A type-r is a nice ride, I had a friend with a mint shell I almost picked up, but decided I had too many to begin with ...

You might as well enjoy your cars while you have them. I've heard stories of thieves towing cars out of driveways to break into garages to get cars with blown motors. So drive it or don't but if thieves are determined to get your s..t they will. Just make sure the insurance is up to date and don't worry about it. You'll regret not driving it if something happens ...
