h23 manual tensioner spring tension question
I'm doing the h23 manual tensioner and I'm looking at this image and it shows there is tension on this spring
my spring is the same part number and everything it even has the rubber cover but for some reason there is no tension in the spring. it just flops around......

I would guess that the hole on the back of the tensioner pulley is not lined up. There is a small silver stud that you need that you should installed on the block behind the tensioner pulley. Then when you put the tensioner on you make sure the hole lines up onto the stud, because the tensioner uses it as a pivot.

correct, everything is pretty strait forward, you should disassemble and then reassemble slowly, it all goes together without a problem when you do iut slow. try it agian, i bet you just missed putting the pulley on the piviot point

Re: h23 manual tensioner spring tension question (c61lude)
You are also missing the Y shaped bracket that is used to help lock the tensioner arm in place. The bracket uses the same 2 mounting holes as the old auto-tensioner.
The pivot "nipple" mentioned in the previous post is very important for correct operation of the tensioner, as it pivots around this.
Remember that the spring strength has got nothing to do with the overall belt tension, as the tensioner is locked into place after the belt tension has been set.

Sorry I don't have any pics. The 'Y' shaped bracket isn't a must, but it is good insurance (I've got it). It's part 109816 "plate adjuster" on Majestichonda.com

Re: h23 manual tensioner spring tension question (c61lude)
Please excuse the bad quality drawing, but you can get the general idea where the bracket goes.
I cant illustrate where the "nipple" is, as it is hidden underneath the tensioner wheel.
Hope this helps.

Re: h23 manual tensioner spring tension question (jmcclell)
Wow, look at the effort that jmcclell went to in order to illustrate the plate adjuster and help a H-T guy out! Now if that doesn't help, along with the link I provided, then nothing will.
