H22A1 Head on a H22A4 block
I just received a block for my Prelude project (FREE!). After I got it home and inspected it, I realized it was a 1997 Prelude Vtec block (H22A4) The block that came with the car has a rod thrown through it! Are there any problems with using the H22A4 block and the H22A1 head (93 VTEC)? One last question, were all Prelude VTECs' made in Japan?
Thanks,

Re: H22A1 Head on a H22A4 block (gsr*lude)
The 1993-1994 (I think) H22A's were closed deck design, the 1995-present H22A's were open deck motors. Look into it, and check the head to see if the coolant passages and Etc. match up...
Good luck, I drive a GSR but my heart is with the Prelude. RIP 1994 Vtec - Enjoy my car you damn russian thieves!

Blocks..
Yes, the blocks are different. The obd 1 blocks are closed deck and the obd 2 [97+] are open deck. However, the open deck blocks have slightly stronger headgaskets to accomodate some of the lost block rigidity due to the open deck design. Honda opted for this design in order to insure more casting and production homogeneity, and also to cut costs. But, the actual block casing is the same, and so are the heads, they both read p13.

Re: Blocks.. (bb6h22a)
Thanks, that is what I was looking for. I knew the H22A1 was a closed deck, and the H22A4 was an open one. I just need clairification of the head fitting and the block going into a 93 Prelude.
thanks!
thanks!
