This might be a stupid question, but does anyone know what octane grades japan has for fuel? I have a jdm h22a engine in my race car and thinking about using higher octane fuel. I know it does not matter if you do not have the compression, but the jdm h22's have a higher compression than a usdm. Can anyone help me?

Not sure about the gas in Japan... but you should use the best octane you can. 91 or 93.

JDM motors need at least a 93...

but 91 would do... since not all places have higher than that... only luckier places get higher than 91... lol

yall do realize japan uses different standards for gas right?

their "100 octane" isn't equal to 100 octane over here.

i've ran 91 / 93 in my h22a and doesn't do anything (on stock timing)

so just put premium

no, it will just burn more expensive gas, premium will be fine in your jdm h22 "racecar" unless your motor has had poor maintenance and developed hotspots on the head, the only benefit you will see is a decrease in weight from your wallet

maybe you should concentrate on racing instead of worrying about trivial stuff like this. most of all the actual race preludes run premium

You "can" use it, but it's not good for your car, since the H22 engine was designed to run on 91. Running lower octane means that you are more likely to ignite before the timing is right... This is why we have knock sensors, however, in the long run, it is still bad. Running on lower octane also decreases performance.

all the Vtec motors are to run premium fuel at all times.

you could mix your 110 with 91 to get 93 if you wish. it's a ratio so you'll have to formulate an equation to figure out the average. for example, i can't get 93 here in california but there are a few gas stations that sell 100.

1gallon 91 + 1gallon 91 + 1 gallon 91 + 1 gallon 100 = 373

373 / 4 (total gallons) = 93.25 octane (3:1 ratio of 3 part 91 and 1 part 100)

if you want 93 from your 110: your ratio is about 9:1

it'll be 9 gallons of 91 per 1 gallon of 110 = 92.9 octane

**edit** "race fuel", as you mentioned, may have other chemicals in it which renders the above formulas useless. most "race fuel" bottles recommend that your use it with a full tank of gas.

Japanese reg fuel is like racing gas. Use 93 or higher on JDM engines.

if your gauge cluster says use premium unleaded fuel only, do it. unless your car is tuned to use race gas, it's not really going to benefit. just as using premium on low compression low output motors like a toyota corolla, it pretty much a waste as well, it's not what is designed to be burned.. one kid told me he used premium on his accord because it burned slower and he got better mileage, yeah he's stupid.

i'd say you have a better chance of becoming a faster driver in yoru race car by driving it than pondering the race gas sitting in you garage. ever see the sport compact car races where regular guys race their own cars time attack style againt pro racers? see some of those time differences? that's because of practice not better gas. sorry if this sounds rude.. i'm not meaning it to be

yea- it says to use only premium, but i have used both premium and regular and i cant tell much difference

Its funny that people are doggin on the racing aspect of this but a lot of people race circle track with 3rd gens w/ h22

"if you have a "racecar" questions like these are trivial" per se.

i mean honestly, race car drivers shouldn't be asking questions like these. and i have yet to see a 3rd gen at a hpde event. just 5th gens (even real race spec 5th gens) and a couple of 4th gens (me included)

That's where your wrong. Hell yes race car drivers should be asking questions like this. I been racing honda's on dirt tracks for years. Its the little things that make you win. You are always trying different things. I have won back to back championships and on my way to a third on the little things. I have never had a jdm motor until this year, thats why i ask. And for h22's being over rated, mine is stock and wooping turbo eclipse ***. You always got to be on top of your game pal.

well my buddy and his dad race a 90 accord and a 3rd gen lude on circletrack at kil kare...
