Icon6 f/h series oil type n capacity

So I buy a f series trans off if craigslist 8 moths ago (P2A5). I slap it in the honda and decided to follow Chilton and Orielly's instruction on what the tranny takes. both said 10w40 two Bottles. Turning the engine on, I notice no reverse, no 1st or anything. was the purchase a DUD or the wrong oil. PS.. I did pump oil through the reverse light switch.

f h series trannies take 10-30 oil. You open the filler bolt and add oil until it comes out of the filler hole provided you're on level ground. Even so, I can't imagine too much or too little oil not allowing you to get into gear. Something else is isn't right.

I'm with Holmes on this one. something else is wrong, probably clutch related.

Can you go into gear with the engine off?
