eclipse GSX AWD turbo STOCK, making prelude daily driver...
I own a prelude know and enjoy the handling this car offers and the respectable power. but im looking to obtain another car in the process and make the prelude a daily driver.
what do you guys ( and yes i ask this section cause i read most of this sections posts) which car should i go with? i know this is a honda forum but can anyone let me know what they think of a eclipse GSX with all wheel drive and turbo? all stock how is that car? are upgrades on it worth it? does the car handle well..
I appreciate it guys...

AWD>FWD
Both cars are capable of high whp machines, but the AWD will always have an edge over the honda... just like it will have an edge with crankwalk over a honda

if maintained that is a bad *** car, and there is a long list of parts made for it as well. I would love to have one........... ive seen them run consistent 12 second passes at reynolds raceway.......

only the 2g 7bold engines crankwalk...the 1g 90-april 10 92 6bolt motor is a strong motor and can make a little over 500hp on stock bottom end...I have a 90 with stock motor and stock turbo with racegas and a 50 shot i ran a 7.74@83 through the 1/8th.....as far as handeling goes they suck on a road course but makes an awsome drag car!!!but that just my 2 cents

Re: eclipse GSX AWD turbo STOCK, making prelude daily driver... (limeaccord)
dsm's are a high mantiance car just like any other turbo car.....i agree that u need to be careful of the high miles ones if u don't know alot about dsm...they are awsome cars but they are not very forgiving to abuse.....i disagree about the "go through many tranys" statement.....just remember they are old and u need to treat it with 4g63's make a lot of torqe for a 4banger so snatching it into gear and grinding gears is not good...Team Rip Engineering makes an awsome trany that is almost bullet proof, John Sheppard runs an 8.7@165.7 in the 1/4 with a rebuilt stock trany with no probs.....1990 to pre-April 10 92 has the stronges motor and the pre-April 10 92's have the strongest rear end so if u get a pre-april 10 92 u have the strongest motor and strongest rear end(but they are hard to find)
don't get anything later than a 92 they have the weak 7 bolt motor which is only good to about 350hp and you live day by day wondering if it will crankwalk.
hope this helped..

Re: (machinehead)
some of the 1g nonturbos (the 2.0l) has the same motor just higher compression and no turbo, So they require just as much maintenance...but as for the 2g if its not a turbo 4g63 then its a dodge neon bc they have a neon motor..
I don't understand why he shouldn't get one bc once u do the maintenance u don't do it again until 60k miles or so and its a very strong motor all u really have to replace is belts(including timing belt) hoses, fluids, ecu caps and harmonic balancer bc the can seperate. I drive my AWD GSX 50miles one way to work everyday and it has 167k miles and its never left me stranded.
if u want to find out answers about dsm's their are alot of dsm tech fourms out thier search, read and form your own opinion dsm arent for everyone

Is this just going to be a project car so you can start from the ground? If so, before getting (and if you want AWD) the DSM look for an old Celica all-trac. I love driving my friend's one.

Personally from experience of my dad owning some and my good friend.. My 5Gen ludes drives nicer, stiffer, handles better.. DSM feels not as sturdy.. Body rigidy i mean.

This pretty much sums it all up... stock 2nd Gen GSX Vs. JDM H22a in a 4th gen lude... http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289478589- just a link . Sorry, the converter to get this on my computer wasn'tcompletely plugged in so you might hear a little noise(you can still hear the blowoff valve)

Re: eclipse GSX AWD turbo STOCK, making prelude daily driver... (mattmw88)
I love the 2nd gen AWDs. I've drove my friend's Talon AWD and immediately fell in love with it. That car was just as fast as my '78 MC with the turbo V6 motor in it (of course off the line was another story). He ran a best of 12.9 before the motor eventually suffered from crankwalk. He pulled the motor out and had a 1st gen motor built by Busch Racing (wait, is that the name?), threw in a Tec-3 unit, a Big 16G turbo, full 3" inch exhaust (Dp to tip), put in larger squirters and a larger pump, took out the essentials like the A/C and heater assemblies, and gutted much of the interior of the car. The last I heard, he had not yet been to the track and was still in the process of tuning it. They're really nice cars, but if you get 2nd gen, as with any car of course, make sure you have money, especially to deal with crankwalk and any other problems.
