Doh, can't take off the oil filter. Ok to just leave it?
6 months ago I tighten it with a filter wrench but can't find it now. What's the rated life for a mobil 1 oil filter?

you're going to have to get it off eventually; just go get another filter wrench..
as far as the mobil 1 oil filter rated life...5,000 miles? who knows, probably just gets less and less effective

If you're ready to commit to removing it, punch a screwdriver through the filter and twist it that way.
Re-using an oil filter probably isn't a big deal, I wouldn't worry too much either way.
Good luck!

Yeah... I hate that "oh ****" moment when you punch the screwdriver through and it just tears up the filter instead of spinning There's no turning back once you've got a hole in it and oil dripping on your face, gotta finish the job.

yeah i know. ppl overtighten their oil filters too much sometimes
if you get real oem honda ones, it gives you numbers on the outside to tell you how much more to tighten after hand tightening

I wanna go kick the guys in the nuts that worked at the place my mom had her 4Runners oil changed last. Bastards WAY overtightened it. And it's near impossible to get a wrench on it where it's at.
hand-tight ftw.
hand-tight ftw.

Yes. I hand tighten it, and it comes off just fine by hand also. Hand tighten + 1/4-1/2 more turn (what I was taught) at the most.

Exactly, all the other ones I've ever used sucked, except for these pliers. Tighten the new one as much as you want cause these sum bitches take everything off.

Hulk FTW
When I cant get it off I just whip out the two foot channel locks....lol
btw: the filter is "supposed" to be hand tightened. Turn it to stop, then 3/5 of a turn past it if I remember right, its about as tight as I could get it with my hand.

He said he's got a mobil 1 on there. I'll take that over the s2000 filter any day of the week.

In the original post piggydog stated he already had a Mobil 1, which is superior to any stock honda oil filter. Then joinerneal recommended moving to a s2000 filter. That is a downgrade, was my point.

Re: (redtop22)
There have been numerous oil filter studies. Mobil1 and Amsoil have always come out on top. The oem Honda filters are made by Fram (in Canada) and have been shown many times to really be horrible.

Yep, I beleive the S2000 filter is a little better as it is not made in canada, but still Mobil 1 is just about the best filter you can buy that is readily available.
