Differences is MAIN RELAYS??

Differences is MAIN RELAYS??
I've been helping my nephew trying to get his 92 Prelude, 2.2 Si started. The eigine would crank and crank, but would not start.
We did all of the normal checks - ignition amplifier tested, new plug wires, new coil, cap, plugs, rotor, but still no good. We couldn't hear the fuel pump come on when the ignition key was first turned and there was NO spark at either the coil wire or any plug wire.
After doing a search and reading many of the posts on this Forum, we zeroed in on the MAIN RELAY. We decided to try one from a wrecking yard and spent this afternoon at a few in the Chicago area yards, but couldn't find a 92/95 Prelude RZ-0139 Main Relay.
We found several RZ-0159 AND RZ-0132 Main Relays though. They were from Acura Integras and Civics.
Even though my search resulted in the correct relay part number to be RZ-0139, we decided to pickup a couple of the others "just to try" them.
The RZ-0159 would not start the engine, BUT BOTH OF THE RZ-0132 MAIN RELAYS WE BOUGHT STARTED THE ENGINE JUST AS IF IT WAS BRAND NEW!!
So now the question is, "What's the difference between the RZ-0139 (which is the one for his engine and which has that number STAMPED on the stock relay cover) and the RZ-0132 which is for certain Acura and Civics?
Also, is there any downside to continuing to use the RZ-0132 Main Relay?
Thanks for any help.
Jake

Re: Differences is MAIN RELAYS?? (phoshizzle88)
I cant see how the mani relays could be different if it is running the car.? maybe the number of contacts
how many wires go into it?
THe main relay is located under the dash by the drivers left foot. its sort of up along the side of the car behind the hood pull

We visually checked and compared the number of pins on both the RZ-0139 and RZ-0132 relays and the pin count and locations are exactly the same.
The factory harness plug plugs right in to both of them.
There's "gotta" be a difference between the two of them. I can't see why Honda would make two different relays, with two different part numbers if they BOTH are the same.
We checked at several different auto parts stores in the Chicago area and none of them had the RZ-0139 relay we were looking for.
Since I read other posts from guys saying how hard it is to find the main relay they were looking for (one even posted that the order had to go all the way back to Japan), if the 0132 will work in place of the 0139 that could cure the 'availability' problem.
So bottom line:
The 92 Prelude 2.2 Si calls for a RZ-0139 main relay
The RZ-0132 relay works, BUT
The RZ-0159 relay DOESN'T
Hope this helps.

Doesn't anyone else have any input on the interchangability of main relays??
This could be good info to have for others who are going through the same thing as I recently did.

Re: Differences in MAIN RELAYS?? (JAKEJR)
Most of the differences in the main relayes is the postition of the plastic locking pin that holds the plug in. all the electical connections are the same. As a shop I only stock the 2 types. One has the locking pin inthe middle and the other is offset to the side abit. . If it plugs in it is interchangeable
