Clunk/Tapping noise at sweet spot in clutch. What is it?
For the past few weeks I've noticed this clicking kind of noise everytime my clutch hits its sweet spot (normally just at low speeds) I messed around with it tonight and it seems to do it right before the car will stall, but if I hold it the noise continues for as long as I managed to keep it at that one spot..
Some background.
1. 01 with 185K on car. H22a replaced (only has 40K)
2. Front axle boot has a hole
Could this problem possibly be something with motor mount? Or maybe the axle?
I'm getting the axle replaced this weekend, It's just going to drive me nuts before then if I don't have any idea what the noise could be.
Has anyone heard/seen this before?

well be for i had this tranny in the car i had no 2nd gear and when it went out it it cracked the bell housing and made a nasty noise when driving.
now with this new tranny if the radio is off i can put the clutch in change gears and let off and i get a clunk noise...not sure if its the same thing your experiencing but when you find out let me now. iam thinking mine are bad motor mounts..?

It sounds like your motor mounts are worn out and cause the engine to flex and make contact with the firewall. I can't be sure but you should check it out yourself and see.
