Default carbon fiber hoods

Just wanted to know who has a carbon fiber hood and how does it react to winters? I've been told that it will warp if you use it in winter because of the constant varying heat from the engine and the cold temperatures of mother nature. Can anyone else verify this and if it is true, how can I avoid this other than changing it out? And when I say cold weather I'm talking sometimes minus 30 degress Cels. Thanks for the input.

I don't think you would have any warpage issues..

although I don't have a cf hood, I live in Utah and have heard of no one having issues here w/them..it gets pretty damn cold here.

second point..that **** is used in F1, touring cars, even NASA for godsake, If your hood warps it is probobly cheap..

Well if you just want looks then i heard some guys have got a thin layer of cf put onto the normal hood so its just as strong, and get the cf look!

thanks for the input guys! I just wanted to know cuz I'm getting the VIS carbon fiber hood with the reverse inlet in the middle. I'm getting it for a pretty smoking deal too so I'm not too worried about the price! Anyway, I'm in calgary canada and it hits minus 30 here sometimes and then I have a turbo so the hood will experience some pretty drastic temperature changes. I'm also wondering where I can get some turbine wrap as well as some heat shielding that I can line the inside of the hood with. As for the latch, the guy says that it is really secure and that I wouldn't need any hood pins. I like the look of the carbon fiber and I think that hood pins would take a bit away from that look. Here's a pic of the hood i'm getting and the guy I'm getting it from.

let me know what you think

yeah I purchaced the VIS Invader 6 CF hood about a year and a half ago, Being in an atlantic canadian i forked over 1,200 bones for it, It was worth it though, VERY strong very tough, i've jumped on it, Thrown my shoes at it, etc I love it.

Your hood shouldn't warp or anything if it's real good cf, BUT the fiberglass can weaken in extreme cold conditions and even snap, also the gel coat right on top of the CF material can move and cause the the clear to crack. anyways, Whatever if you take care of it it shouldn't happen

Im new to the site, i look forward to posting with all of you guys!

I see that you have hood pins on your hood. Do you think that they are necessary? Nice pics by the way, I think I remember your setup from hondaprelude.com cept your car was a different color...I think! haha, anyway, I'm glad that you had good luck, I'll be the second owner of this hood but he says it's in good shape and I've seen it up close and it looks good. I'm getting it for around 450 canadian so I'm pretty happy! Do you think I should put a layer of clear coat on it? I've heard of people doing this to get that extra bit of shine, but wasn't too sure if it's worth it.
Thanks again for the input!

Wow, another Calgary, Alberta user. Cool, I thought I was the only one. Newayzz, carbon fiber hood in winter no big deal, my friend has one and after our cold *** winter it still looks like new. Oh yeah, hood pins keep the hood from flexing at higher speeds apparently (I can't vouch for this, but I've read it in an older thread). I'll tell you when I get mine this spring...
