Can u cut coils out of springs on a 97 prelude?
I have a 97 prelude and really don't wanna spend 800 bucks on coil overs for it and would rather try and cut a coil or two out of my springs to lower it. Can this be done if so how many coils would I cut out to drop it an inch or so?

lol cut a couple of coils? your car will be laying frame. OP you have officially won the biggest ricer thread of the year. You would rather risk injuring yourself and others doing something so hack like that instead of just buying coils, (800 dollar coils at that.)

Personally i would just leave the lude at its current height until you can
save enough for a decent suspension setup. Springs can be cut and you
will be able to drop it, but the handling of your lude will be awful and more
importantly very dangerous. Suspension is a crucial part of any vehicle
and is a upgrade where function is much more important than form.

I will tell you what... Send me $145 and I will ship you Ksport lower springs. Will drop you about: 2.0" Front and Rear
At least its made for the 5th gen and will lower your ride until you can save up and then order the Kontrol Pro kit from me.
By the way I am a 3rd gen Prelude owner and an authorized Ksport dealer.
I would recommend purchasing new shocks as well. Shocks you can find all over the net.
That would be your cheapest best low budget lowering option that will not destroy your suspension and cause an accident.
Email me for details if your are serious.

i wish my suspension setup only costed 800 dollars....smfh so many cheap people these days. i'd just let this clown cut his suspension.
You know Ronnie folks who save 100 of dollars on suspension sure are happy. And how happy are they Jimmy? happier than a group of kids in a moon bounce.

DONT CUT ANYTHING ON YOUR SPRINGS. THIS IS EXTREMEMLY DANGEROUS. If you just want to lower them and want a decent price. Go to ebay and get your self some tokico blue shocks with tokico red lower springs. You get about 1.75 drop and they are made for lowering the CORRECT WAY!!!!!!

I have to agree, cutting your stock springs changes the spring rates and makes for a car that does not handle well.
The first 5th gen I picked up had this done and was it ever a mess.
You can get proper lowering springs for under $200 that will lower the car and retain proper spring rates and a reasonable ride quality.
Its best to combine springs with proper lowering shocks but its not a must. When I found out that the springs were cut I picked up a set of H&R springs and put them in there just so it felt better and handled a bit better. It was running the factory shocks.
The car will drive ok with the stock shocks just keep in mind the stock shocks will not last a long time with lowering springs on them.
Hope you decide to go with some lowering springs.

Cutting springs is never a good thing, but...
Comparing stock shocks with cut springs to ebay coils on stock shocks, the stock cut springs win. the ebay springs are ridiculous.
Also better than heating springs which you should never ever do ever.

You can get springs now to drop the height and then get new shocks later for more aggressive handling; you do not have to get a full coilover kit right now. Most spring kits will go for $200-$300 and are moderately easy to swap out yourself. If you want height adjustability, get Ground Control springs which have an adjustable perch.

Thank u for the info I haven't cut the springs just looking for info on it cause I had heard about doing that but after looking into and also finding a good lowering kit that's not super expensive. Once again thanks for the info
