Belt squeal / squeak at startup
I just changed my accessory belts (PS + alternator). Now when the engine is cold and it starts up, their is a brief squeal / squeak.
What would be most likely to cause the noise, a belt that is too loose, or too tight?

It could be either one. make sure you get them just right
Honestly though, they should be tight enough to where you can grab an open section of belt and only twist it 90 degrees. No more, no less. You should be fine like that.

I've also had shitty quality belts cause the same problem at proper tension. Check your tension and if it's ok, then consider getting better belts. Also, clean the pulleys before putting a new belt on (brakleen or lacquer thinner works ok).

Thanks I checked em and they do seem way loose. I'm going back to the shop to have them tighten them up. Too much of a hassle to try yo get to the alternator belt.
