Default Back in Love with my Prelude

After a $500 paint job at Maaco, Audio system overhaul, and a couple of things I don't want to mention just yet. My Prelude is running great, and looks better than it has in the 3 years I owned it.

Not a perfect paint Job by Maaco but I got what I paid for.

The color is Lincoln MKX Light Ice Blue Clearcoat Metallic.

Well the problem was not the paint job. Went they prepped it, they uncovered things I did no about. Instead of asking me to fix it, they just painted over it. Also a lot of over-spray.

macco, lol.

Like 5 years ago on the first prelude I ever own I got a paint job from them. I had a new trunk lid installed with the liscene plate hole welded up, and took my wing off the car. The wing left scratch marks on the new paint. I asked them for some touch up paint, and some mexican comes out with a can of black paint like the color they used to paint the car, and a paint brush, he than used a paint brush over the scratches.

Lol, mexicans

I got a top-of-the-line paint job from Maaco back to the factory red color. They did a good job in my opinion. I just made it clear to them before they got started that I was really picky about overspray and contamination in the paint. Just let them know you care about the quality and they should do just fine.

By the way, Maaco has recently been trying to improve their quality to capture more car insurance work. This could be to your advantage as well.

You could learn from the experience. Your car looks alright from here, and if you feel better about it then that is all you can hope for. It could be worse. You could have spent two grand on supplies prepping it and painting it yourself (new trim, etc) and still be disappointed with the outcome. That is where I'm sitting at, and overall I still feel good about my ride.

My Maaco recommendation is to do all the prep and masking work yourself and ask them to do a basecoat/clearcoat paintjob on it. It should turn out decent.

in my experiences, i've seen a friend with a $499 job and a $899 job from MAACO/Fact-o-Bake... worlds of difference..

they both got what they paid for.. but if im not mistaken on the cheaper ones ie: $500 they use a paint that has clearcoat in it... the higher end jobs actually use a base coat THEN a clear coat.

As everyone mentioned. Do the prep work your self. They charged me $100 but no bondo, just sand a paint. I am not recommending them to anyone.

I think the color is pretty good! What color was it before?

So if you had to do it all over again, what do you wish you had done differently? Prep work yourself and the next level paint job? Do you wish you took out the headlights, tail lights, etc before hand?

My Accord could use a paint job. $500 is too much to spend on it though.

I wish I did all that as well as the engine bay. It was the stock Prelude color similar to that.
