Back from the dead
Alright, so it's been a about a year and a half since anything has happened to my car that was pretty much destroyed due to my careless driving.
1994 Honda Prelude Si 4ws
(Black Leather Interior) <--
After long debate and research, my car has been restored to like-new condition actually.
I left for basic training and just left my car sitting on my driveway in a definite non-running condition.
-Blown Engine
-Dead Battery
-Massive oil GASH on the pan (leads to absolutely no oil in the car)
-Torn CV Boots
-No Muffler
-(Tons of other things)
My parents decided to take the car to a friend of theirs who was a qualified mechanic for Japanese cars(apparently). He is actually quite good, I figured out.
So they just received the car back in Great Condition!
My original plan was to swap in an JDM h22a and do a bunch of mods to it.
However, being broke all the time and no real plans lead to NOTHING
So then, I thought maybe I should just sell the car and sacrifice what I could for it, maybe pick up a different car. Now that the economy has gone down the ******* and after what the repairs cost. I would be basically getting nothing for the car.
Major repairs the mechanic did
-30k h23a1 engine swap(I would've swapped in a different engine, but I didn't choose)
-Replace CV boots/axles
-Muffler back on
-2 Pages of repairs for a ridiculously cheap price due to being a family friend <-- I still don't even know what has been done
Now, I'm in stationed in Germany until December of 2010, as the car is out of my reach, I'm deciding on what to do.
I would like to keep it now and do some light mods on it, when I get home
Current:
-AEM SRI
-Front Strut Bar
-20% Tint all around
It seems like a HUGE waste to swap out the 30k h23a1 that was just swapped in, so swapping in an h22a1 or h22a is out of the question for now. It just isn't logical
I used to research my Prelude about everyday, looking for modifications that I could do( but there being no money, this went nowhere.LOL)
So, as soon as I get home, I'm going to re-install my CD Deck and put in new speakers.
As far as modifications.(Since now my income allows it)
Even if I was to just DD it pretty much stock
-Lowering it. Definitley
-Rear stock Accord Lip
-Full Orange Side Markers
-JDM 1 Piece Headlights
-New Wheels(maybe put some other Honda rims on it)
I guess I'm stuck at a dilemma, should I even start to put bolt-ons on?
Or custom boost with the dsm 1g turbo setup?(this will lower my engine lifespan, but is it worth it?)
Just leave it stock mainly?
or whatelse could I do?
Some inputs from you OG Prelude guys would be appreciated.
I have always liked the way my Prelude looked, even though it was an older car.
This is the way my lude sat the last time I saw it.

Wow, that's AWESOME! Congrats, man! Glad to see it get a new lease on life.
I would keep it pretty much stock. I like the idea of 1-pc headlights and orange turnsignals. Can't go wrong with those. Maybe suspension after that. Other than that, I would leave it as is.
I would just enjoy the car as it is (when you get back of course)
94 4WS. Gotta love those. Wish I had the speedometer out of it.

Re: Back from the dead
*** two years to not drive your prelude, that sucks *****.
I'd keep it as is.
Search h23 vtec though if you want more info. Its not a bad mod and the price isn't too bad. Your mechanic friend could handle it for sure. You'd want to make good friends with a local tuner than too.
If you did want to mod it how much money do you want to alocate to it? H23 isn't a bad motor. It sounds like a fresh motor though so if you want to go all out, FI could be a posibility!
DSM turbo isn't a horrible idea. Go with a 16G or larger for sure though. 14bs are a bit small and taper off around 5000-5500 rpm in my experience. Lots of factors involved other than just the turbo but who knows.
I like how they look too. 4th gens are sexi

Re: Back from the dead
I might do the h23vtec, however it seems like some trouble. What is recommended for the turbo setup? does anybody make superchargers?
Anymore inputs?

Re: Back from the dead
Superchargers you'd likely piece a custom one together. I'd recommend a centrifugal version (designed like a paxton or vortech for example) Simple design, somewhat efficient, and installs not that hard at all. Just need a pulley system incorperated into your PS/Alt/AC pump area. I often thought you could remove PS and run one there. I like PS though.
They are good for low to mid boost aplications upwards of 150 hp maybe at around 12 psi (all aproximations going by 7% per lb of boost, nothing to take as factual .) from what I've seen. Maybe more now. Havn't looked into superchargers for over 2 years now.
Your dsm setup. Larger injectors, fuel pump. All the turbo parts off a dsm motor. Some say that the turbo exhaust manifolds can fit a prelude by drilling out a single hole (you'll have to read more to confirm which ones), intercooler/ piping, colder spark plugs, (not sure if dsm's are all oil cooled or if some are water cooled) but you'll need an oil/water cooling/return line, a boost controler, a catch can setup would be smart aswell to prevent blowby going back into your intake. Than you'll need a EMS/tune so you'll have to buy an ecu that is chipable/programable/tunable. I know I missed alot so hopefully someone will add to this list. Oh a down pipe too.
Lots of stuff. Its not that complicated though, alot easier than most think. I think the hardest part for me was running the intercooler piping. I don't have a stock 4th gen front lip though so that made it easier. I have alot more room to play in with the aftermarket one.
I miss my old front end though. Too bad it got headbutted by a fat racoon and he actually won the fight (he died but kicked the **** out of my fender LOL)

Re: Back from the dead
Been roughly 4 months now. I honestly tried to just forget about the car for a minute there. Didn't work out so well, as it is still in my name sitting in the states.
I'm heading back to the states in July and am going to drive my prelude for the first time in a year. I'm very curious to see how it runs with the fresh engine in it. I'll let you guys know .
It's really a hard decision whether or not to:
try and sell (lose money for sure due to economy and whatever)
keep and leave stock (boring and cmon..honestly stock?)
keep and make fast (more money into it)
keep and leave engine stock and do exterior (still slow)
I just don't want this to turn into a endless money pit and still be disappointed at the end.
A friend of a friend back home said he has a 16g turbo and only wants to put it on a H series motor. Hmm? <-- Been sitting in my mind recently after hearing this
Blahhh. This is actually a pretty hard decision to make.
It's not that money is a HUGE deciding factor, but it's there like always.
Also, I'm going to shave the trunk of the spoiler and emblem if I keep the car.
I know that when I see the car again, I'm going to want to keep it and fix it up.
Pleaseee share some input, I need some other opinions other than my own conscience eating away.

Re: Back from the dead
The h23vtec sounds like a big hassle though. To source the parts for the head and other parts seem like a big headhunt.
Let me just throw this out there, my parents did not pay for the car or repairs. They just brought it to the shop for me. Just so people don't think this isn't my car.

Re: Back from the dead
Well, I just returned home for leave for a few weeks. I popped the hood to see what everything looked like and....
I thought it was an h23a1. It's an H23A block with what looks like an h23a1 head on it. I can't tell if it's just the vc or the actual head. I'll be calling the mechanic and see what he did. I'm very curious.

Re: Back from the dead
Quick update on this, I cannot believe after all this time, I'm still at this problem!!!
After doing some research, it seems like it's a JDM Non-vtec H23A. Not a blue top, because he used my old VC and I guess a non-vtec h23a vc can't fit on an vtec h23a.
I've read up about the blue tops as much as possible and since I can't speak with the mechanic, it's extremely hard to figure out what motor is in there
Good news to the car.
-IT RUNS!
Bad news.
-Battery is bad
-More scratches on the exterior due to careless mechanic
-Mystery motor <--?? Worst part
-Passenger Mirror won't work
-Alarm light flashes
-Old p14 ECU won't match up with new motor, redlines very early
I've spent alot of money, time, heart, and headache on this car. I hate it so much
I'm almost about to part out the car, but not sure how much I can even get from it.
It's a 94 Milano Red Prelude Si 4ws
170,xxx miles on chassis
30,xxx miles on JDM h23a
Black leather interior
some suggs will be helpful!
