85 Twin Carb Performance Upgrades
I am using a 85 Prelude with the 1.8L Twin Carb 12valve engine. I have searched high and low, and found no header for the car. All I care to buy if I had the 2.0 EFI engine. This car is only for drag racing.
I need any help I can get to tweak the overall power of this car. Tools are no prob, I build V8 Drag cars. Im currently also driving a 69 Torino Cobra.
If no exhaust header, what about removing the cat converter, and muffler. Perhaps going to a diff muffler if back pressure is needed.
I am building a custom air intake system using a K&M Filter. Fuel wise Im using high octane pump gas, but have 114 octane at my disposal.
Interior is being stripped, and will be ebay bound, as will any removed parts.
What ignition system, and componants. I need all teh help I can get.

Re: 85 Twin Carb Performance Upgrades (Merlin1068)
first off... there is no catalytic converter only a resonator, secondly you will find no header because nobody makes one. Thirdly, I as well own a 85 prelude and the only performance products i have found are, ignition, wires, k&n... by the way, don't waste your time or effort building a custom intake your carbs don't move enough air to make a difference trust me. just get a k&n stock replacemnt filter number e-2925. hopefully this helps

get yourself a set of webber sidedraft carbs. then you will see some power come out of that motor. don't waste time with the stock carbs. they just don't have any more power than stock.

Re: 85 Twin Carb Performance Upgrades (4wsB21a)
rtypeinertia@hotmail.com I will check with them.
I made 8 Passes last night to establish a base run on the car with no mods to it what so ever. Keep in mind the nearest track is 1/8th mile, and this is where I will be running most the time.
Average Times were 11.685 and for a bone stock 85 Prelude with 177k miles, I dont consider it bad. After all at end of strip against a stock 5.0 Stang he only got me by 1 car length LOL.
I noticed the Clutch got hot after each pass, and allowed 20-30 mins between runs for cooling. But a back to back set of runs, the hotter clutch slipped some on hitting 2nd. Times were better, but didnt like the heating.
Next Mod: tripple gauges to replace the idiot lights. Removal of Any un needed componants from the engine compartment. Total Flush of all engine fluids and replacement with high quality cooling and lubes. Complete Strip of all Interior parts. Glass will be replaced, and manual control of the electric fans will be done.
THANK GOD FOR POWER SUNROOFS
At the end of a pass that car generates some heat. Kicken the sunroof open and droppen a window helps.
Keep in Mind, There wont be a $30k engine in this car, no NOS, no Turbo. Mix of old school natural aspiration and a little hotter gas.
Remember on the Strip its not how fast you go, its how consistant you get there.
