Default 5th gen Prelude: Best projector/HID solution and what have you guys done?

Well my girl has a 2001 Prelude and she's complaining why her lights suck so bad compared to the xenon lights in some of our other cars....

I want do a brigher, safer alternative for her and was doing some HW on aftermarket light solutions. It seems you can't just swap a HID kit onto the oem lights or it will be very blinding and unfocused. I have the skills to bake the headlight apart and do the retrofit but I need some advice....

People have talked of doing Retrofits but I don't know the procedure or how that is accomplished so perhaps someone can link me to a DIY?

My other choice is to shop E-bay and it seems there are 2 general types of aftermarket projector light housings:

a) Single projector on lower part of housing with clear LED's on both sides and a socket for a halogen high beam bulb?

b) Dual lights with one projector and one for high beam. I don't like this one cuz it has the silly CCFD angel eye rings.....

What have you guys done for better lighting? Any advice for this newbie is appreciated!@

thanks
rick

i imagine if you go with those ebay projectors your light output would probably worse.

save up some money and do a retrofit with some better quality projectors or even pay someone to do them. i believe someone on the board by the name of brian1987 (or something like that) does a retrofitting service.

or you can visit hid planet for info.

I emailed brian1987 already..........

But, is there an actual thread about this retrofit process? Do I just buy some projector lenses off E-bay, bake my own headlight apart and somehow attach it?

I'm surprised I can't find a single thread on how this was done........

Awesome sup3rd, thanks for those links, super helpful and exactly what I was looking for - gotta admit there are some great installers here!

Is there anyone out there doing this for others as a business? I think that person would make some good money! I'll be a customer since I can do it but don't think I have the time to play with all these parts.

anyone selling their retro fitted headlights?

My ears were ringing cause I knew someone was talking about me around here. Yea, I'm one of the guys who does retrofits for people. I've been doing them for about 3 years now, maybe a little longer. If you need any help, just PM me or email me

I would definitely advise staying away from the eBay assemblies; I've heard they have terrible light output and as you can tell they don't necessary look all that great either. Your best bet is to get a good retro-fit with good quality projectors (as you probably know your S2K has wonderful ones ) Post some pics when you're done!

Go to kragens or wherever. Buy 2000 and 1000 grit WETANDDRY sandpaper. and rubbing compound
have a bucket of water with a rag.
wet the rag and wipe your headlight so it can be wet. lol
then use the 2000 grit. use the bucket of water and rag to keep the headlight wet.
Then after it looks better use the 1000 grit to finish it off.
throw some rubbing compound on it and then wipe it off. then tada!
how good it looks depends on how much work you put into it.

those write ups dont tell you how to connect the leds to your lighting system, I read around somwhere that you hook it up to the posi on ur batt then on the light switch.

Actually I'm not sure what those E-bay projectors use for bulbs which is another question but I'm NOT going that route anymore....

Will these Acura RL projectors work for a retrofit on the Prelude?

I'm thinking I want to do this for my next motorcycle as well...hehe

thanks
rick

screw retrofitting. yes it looks good, but i'm never paying $700+ for headlights. i got an 8000k plug and play conversion (the kind w/ the ballast assembly) for 100 bucks, w/ a 2 yr warranty. yeah i wouldnt have got them w/o the warranty. they are suprisingly good...no flickers, even when i did a burnout with the most massive wheel hop ever!
