2001 Prelude Cold Start Issues
All started after I did a compression test. Car ran fine before this. I did not(should have) take out the fuse to the fuel pump, so fuel was entering the cylinders during test. Numbers came out good at 225, 215, 215, 225. After the test, the car is having trouble starting when cold. When i eventually get it started, it runs rough for about 3 mins and then runs fine. Before test, I had a CEL for the o2 sensor, was on for a few months. Since the car has had trouble, I have replaced the spark plugs, and the o2 sensor. The car is throwing 6 misfire CEL's. No oil in coolant or vise-versa. Really at a loss. Any help? My next guess is maybe the fuel injectors?

Test the coil according to the helms. If you didn't pull the coil plug before the test, it's likely gone. I've done the same before in a hurry. Charge builds up with no where to go.

Can do, I'll check that tomorrow. Also, when cold, if I take the radiator cap off, it seems to spit coolant out. Its possible its because the motor is surging and sputtering but I am thinking it might be air. Gonna do a cold compression test and a block test tomorrow also to check my headgasket.

In addition to disabling the fuel pump you gotta disable the ignition as well. This can be done by pulling the ECU fuse. You probably either burned out the coil or the igniter. I would test them both cold and hot.
I did the same exact thing myself. Take off the cap and see if there's a white smoke film on the inside of the cap.

Well I replaced the ignition control module and that didn't fix the issue. Have now replaced the spark plugs, 02 sensor, igntion control module. Gonna test coil next I guess. So very frustrated. What really gets me is how well it runs once it starts and runs rough for about 2 mins. Once it starts to run right....it runs perfect.

That's a different sensor, the one that sends the temp to the gauge on the cluster is the temperature "sender" which is the smaller plug, we're referring to the coolant temperature "sensor" which is the larger plug of the two. They are right next to each other under the distributor.

well, I talked to a Honda Tech. He said to try a dif test. He said get the motor started and warmed up. Then take out the spark plugs and hold a mirror over the spark plug hole. If the mirror fogs up, then its a head gasket. Cylinder 3 fogged up. Its getting harder and harder to start and now running like crap even once it warms up so It seems to be headgasket.

That test was at operating temps and even at cool temp it didnt show much. But I've been chasing this problem for a week and replacing every part suggested. Lol as I mark off suggestions, the headgasket sounding likely. Last time I started it, it smoked some and the smoke smelled sweet like coolant. Also the last time we pulled the spark plugs, 2 of them had some white on them.

Umm, I wouldnt know how to do that. I appreciate all the advice! Another question I have, if I end up doing the head gasket, what all does everyone recommend doing at the same time. Timing belt, water pump, machine the head. Valves?

Do not machine the head unless you have too.was it machined before?

Not that I know of. I have only had the car about 6 months. I'm going under the assumption that it is the original headgasket and timing belt.
