2000 Prelude, Headlight bulbs die quick
I am currently using Sylvania Silverstars and after a few months the bulb is already dead/broken.
This is the second occurence and it seems to be only on one side (right side), the filament just breaks.
Is it the bulb or is there a connection that is causing this? Thanks

haha, It's the Silverstars, not your car. I get a set of 4 of these for xmas last year and I have warrantied at least 4 sets already. If I was not getting the replacements for free I would never get these lights again. They suck *****.

Really? they seem to last me literally around 5 months (maybe not even) I need to look for the receipt.
How do you get them for warranty? What bulbs are you currently using?

yeah these bulbs suck man. Don't keep buying them, they are just going to burn out on you again. Who knows when but they will. I think even on their site they state that the bulbs don't last long. My bulbs were bought at a place that warranties them so all I needed to do was bring the bad ones back and they would give me new ones.
Right now I have Silverstars in but they are all burnt out lol. I am serisouly only driving with one high beam and that's it. I really need to get some stockers or something better because I can't keep driving like this

so I guess the only other route would be HID, I wonder what everyone is using for a bulb though.
I sure hope that is something less brighter or as bright as Silverstars but has better life

Xtreme Vision is the maker, best I can tell. They are just direct bulb replacements. The bulblife varies. I usually get 9-12 months out of a pair. Price is about $25/set on eBay. Visit www.xtremevision.biz for the Lifetime warranty info.

are you wearing a glove when you install the bulbs. the oil from your skin can make them burn out prematurely. i had silverstars burn out the moment i first turned them on.

i have 3 years on my silver stars in my truck. You can't get any thing on the glass (oil moisture finger prints).

Re: 2000 Prelude, Headlight bulbs die quick
The ONLY H1 bulbs I have found that last longer then a month are the Honda OEM ones from the stealership. Same goes for the H3Cs in my JDM fogs - every aftermarket one I've tried has lasted a week TOPS, so I am still running the Stanley OEM H3Cs that came with my JDM fogs I will retrofit to H3s when they do burnout and use Honda OEM Stanley H3s.

well i tried them both and i think the Xtreme Vision is the maker last a bit longer than the silverstarts about 5 or it last up to a year even thought i put on the glove while i am replacing the lightbuld. I just wonder if the HID kit for honda prelude would be much better since it sale for around $75 buck? have anyone try the HID kid and does it last long???? please let me kknow.

Re: 2000 Prelude, Headlight bulbs die quick
FYI: Some auto systems run at 12.6v continuous (GM, I think) while Honda uses 13.8 and peaks at 14.5. Some bulbs are designed to provide full brightness at 12.5v while others at 14v. The 12.5v jobs will be brighter, but they tend to get too hot and will be MUCH more sensitive to vibration.
I just varies by brand - I would just try a different brand. The mfg web site might provide more specs, but I will likely be trial and error. I am running just plain Sylvania Halogens on mine (4th Gen, nothing fancy) and they are 2 years old.

Try the wire harness upgrades for the bulbs, they plug in your old headlight sockets then provide a beefier wire to the a/f bulbs you use. This I always get about 2 years out of my bulbs this way..

Im on my third year with 6000k H1 HID bulbs(kit) for low beams and in my second year of 8000k H1 HID bulbs(kit) for my high beams. Lights like stadium lights with high beams on, great for annoying that one guy that cut you off I guess cause, I never really need to use my high beams.

Re: 2000 Prelude, Headlight bulbs die quick
Just to chime in...I installed a set of Sylvania Silverstars and got less than a year out of one of them. I replaced it, and the other one is still going strong. Go figure.
I am very meticulous when installing bulbs (I wipe them down with alcohol before installing them) and never touch the glass afterward. So, I doubt it was contaminated, but it is possible.
For comparison, I had a Civic for 6 years and replaced the headlights about 2 years in and they went at least until I sold the car. I think bulbs should last a few years, minimum, especially when they're upwards of $20/piece.
Autoluder, what is this wiring upgrade you mentioned?
