Your pick? 2 Suzuki SV's...
I'm comparing a brand new Suzuki SV650 for $5900 or a 2003 SV1000 with 8k miles for $6900. Both are dealer prices so there wil be some negotiating, more so with the used 1000.
Keep in mind I'm moving down from my 1000RR, I need something with a bit more comfort and not as aggressive riding position but still with some ***** and handling capability. Also looking at a price limit of around $9000 OTD.
I'm open to other similar bikes though the comparable Hondas were more expensive and I wasnt too impressed with the looks of the Kawasakis. The Yamaha FZ6 wasnt too bad either, the half fairing look was kind of odd though.
Anyone have experience with both SV's? Any and all input is appreciated!

Sorry no Aprilias, I'd prefer the big 4 Jap companies. I know with all I've heard about the "streetfighter" SV's theres gotta be some more people out there!

well obviously. it'd be the very first thing you do. It was the same thing with the old z1000. Those dual outlets dual exhaust had to go. Save about 30lbs by ditching it for a full hindle exhaust

Re: Your pick? 2 Suzuki SV's... (...rohit)
Not bad on the Z1000, whats the riding position like? Seems similar to the SV1000, slightly more agressive than the SV650.
As far as why I prefer the big 4 Jap's its just personal preference plus theres dealers for all of them around here. I have very little knowledge of anything but Honda, Kawi etc...
I'll have to go take a sit on one of those Z's

Go have a seat... those are sexy bikes. Generally, the "standards" have more upright seating positions and are more comfortable.
If you've been riding a 1000 and want to keep the power, don't even bother with the SV650.

i sat on the new z1000 and didnt like the seat or the rearset postioning. the last gen z1000 felt better but i hear the new one has more mid range and less buzz. if i was going for a naked right now that the jap companies are offering it would probally be the new hornet

We don't get those in the U.S., sadly. Oh, how I wish some of the European auto and motorcycle trends would catch on here...
There's still a new '06 919 at the dealer I got my 599 from. I think it was going for under $8k, don't really remember. I've heard nothing but good about them as well. I don't know if they're having the same problems moving them as the 599, but you can get 599s for lower than the dealer invoice.

a few of the local dealers have had a 599 and 919 on the floor for monthes, they just dont move. the problem is they dont have enough character say like the z1000,tuono,speed/street triple,fz1 and so on.

Re: Your pick? 2 Suzuki SV's... (Evs-One)
Well I checked out a few more bikes. I really like the Z1000 as far as looks. I just wish they had a Z600 in the 6.5k range. 8.8K roughly for the 1000 is just too much.
Next was a Yamaha FZ6 which looks ok, its like a half-assed R6 with the full headlight assembly but naked bottom and sides. 90hp though and a quite comfortable riding position. In the 6.8k range.
Then theres the Kawasaki Versys. Which at first looked horrid to me. Goofy BMW'esque front end, definately a euro influenced bike. And later learned it has been around for a few years in Europe and it just made it to the states this year '08. However the riding position on this was the most comfortable. And at 71hp it'll still get down easily. Much lower redline, 10.5k compared to the FZ at 14k. Bottom end power is a plus to me here.
Any input on how smooth the acceleration and idle of these two motors would compare? A 2 cylinder 650cc parallell twin, and a 4 cylinder inline 4?

Did you check out the Ninja 650 while you were at Kawasaki? Costs less, same engine, better looks. The riding position might not be quite as good, but it's supposed to still be pretty comfortable.

They are only offering the 750 version across the pond now, it looks gorgeous by the way.
