Default Why are prices so high?

Is it this way around the country? I have been looking for a bike now for 3 months and haven't seen a good deal at all and have seen 1 or 2 decent deals, but upon further inspection they were modded. When I say decent deals I mean like blue book prices. Myself and friends all sold our bikes two years ago for at the time was a decent price and now those same models are going for MORE than we sold them for and have more miles. When I was getting an insurance quote my agent said " yeah if you have the money I bet it is a good buyers market for a bike." Is the economy not hurting motorcycle owners?

There's no recession for motorcyclists.

But I would suggest getting your funds together and ready to drop, because money talks when it comes to closing deals.

Bring what you want to spend, minus a few hundred that you keep in your pocket just in case you need to sweeten the deal.

Case in point: You're looking at a 600RR for $5,000. Bring $4,000 cash ready to buy, and if he/she jumps on it - great. If not, then ask them how close they can get to $4k if you want to close the deal.

Then pull out the rest of the cash and go from there.

Agreed, people always ask more then they are willing to accept for a bike. Dont call with a low offer, just show up and make your offer with cash in hand after looking at the bike.

That's the bike I am looking for. I have plenty of cash to purchase the bike, but I refuse to pay a premium for something that I will loose a grand in value right away. Every fool wants $6000 for a 2004 600rr with 10k miles. I mean you can pick up a damn new left over 08 for 8500. I want to pay around 4300 ish for an rr with around 10k miles. I guess no more negotiating over the phone. I will just go look at the bike and then make an offer. Reason I negotiate over the phone is because most bikes are a good drive away.

i let my bikes go for too cheap, haha. i just like to move stuff. i was gonna let my mint 07 600rr go for 6k with atleast 2k in extras and just dealt with tons of flakes and dreamers so i decided to keep it.

like everyone else said, i usually come in 500-1k less then asking price, if the person really needs money they'll make deals. have u checked 600rr.net classifieds?

Yeah I have checked there, chicagosportsbikes.com, craigslist, cycletrader, and I google 600rr for sale chicago or Illinois daily. Yeah if I saw a deal like what you were selling yours for I would have snapped that up. Some guy wanted 4300 for an f4 with 16k miles. I offered him 3400 which i thought was more than fair and he said the lowest he would go is 4000.

Right now isn't really the time to be buying a bike since it's spring and lots of people are getting the fever. Most buyers know this, so the prices are a bit higher. I find the best time to buy is in the fall or early winter before christmas. Just keep looking and be patient, and be willing to walk away from the deal. Good luck!

FYI, the Chicago/IL bike market is the pits. I don't know why, but prices are way higher here than most other parts of the country. I gave up on finding a decently priced bike in the area.

Edit: Zeker made a good point too. However, I was watching the market since like October, and the only decent prices were total shitcrates.

I did check in the winter. That is when I picked up my last bike. I think it was in early January. I looked this year and there was not much posted this year. I was surprised and thought that especially in the winter, with the economy so horrible, that I could get a nice bike for cash cheap. I have been checking Dallas since my brother lives there, but once you add in 400 for shipping the price is what it is here.

Those killer deals are hard to find, you have to scoop them up when you see them. Right now prices are going to go back up, people want to ride when the weather is nice. You have to remember bikes don't depreciate like cars, not to mention many people still owe money.

so are you saying I should just pony up the 8300+tax and title for a new one? I just hate buying something new, but at the same time i feel foolish paying 6k for an 05 with 8k miles.

I think i found something. It was laid down, but it just has scratches and one fairing has cracks around the screw area. It is a 2005 zx-6r with 3000 miles. I can get it for 4000. I wanted an 600rr but jesus the prices are just to high. It looks like this bike competes with the 600rr. I figure if the scratches bother me much I can have my friend that does body work prep it and then pay 300$ to have everything painted a nice gloss black.

Not to sound like a jerk, but BIKES DON'T DEPERCIATE LIKE CARS. There are not millions of them on the road. They don't suddenly fall in value to a 1000 bucks. If a new one only costs $8300, a used one isn't going to loose half its value in a few years unless it hits the ground. Have you thought about a sport touring bikes? Good performance, comfy riding position, and lower prices.

The bike market around me is collapsing. People are hopeful, but that doesn't change the fact that they ask too much for their bikes.

1st Gen 600rr's should be about 3k or so. FWIW, my friend is selling his 03 600rr in track condition (clean title, but no lights/oem plastics) for 2000-ish.

06 bikes in general should be in the 5000 range, 08's for 6k-7k sounds fair.

sounds about right. alot of it depends on the model and brand bike your looking at. kawis tend to lose value faster. i basically only ride hondas and they seem to really hold there value well. 05/06 600rr always seemed to be priced a lil high. thats what i wanted but went with a new 07 because the price wasnt much more, lol.
