What '03 bike to get?
In two months I will be returning home from a military assignment and will be purchasing a new bike. I'm not sure which bike to get. I've heard good things about all of the ones that I am looking at. I have my eye on the ZX6R. A friend said that the Ninja should be the last bike on my list. I've also heard that this years ZX6R is one of the best bikes out there. Can someone help me figure out if he is right? Or if the Ninja hasn't been a competitive contender up to this year.
I'm all ears.

I just got an email from that friend who said that the Ninja wasn't the best bike out there. Well... he recanted. He agreed with me for the fact that it has been redesigned. Has a new chasis, new engine, a lot of other goodies. Unless I hear otherwise, I'm looking towards the Ninja 636.
It's either the Ninja or the CBR. I've been hearing a lot of good things about the new Ninja; not to mention, it comes in blue. But I also love the CBR, even though solid blue is not an option.

That's not the case anymore, so I would ignore his statement.
I'm not going to say you should or shouldn't buy it, I haven't ridden it, so I don't know. I'm just saying you should get what appeals to you, and it's likely your friend has out-of-date information.

I know NOTHING when it comes to street bikes. I've only ridden dirt bikes. I'm not sure which bike to get, because I don't know which one "feels right". I've never ridden a crotch-rocket before., so I don't know what WOULD feel right and what WOULDN'T. They all would feel really weird.

Then I would have to say, get an SV 650 and not the "bling bling latest superfast I am da **** 600" (no offense meant)... but that's just me.
There is no such thing as the best bike out there, there is the bike that suits you. If all of them feel weird, get the one that feel the least weird.

well i going with the 954 CBR RR Honda, but in the 600's level either 600RR or R6 Both look great , RR 600 has the pipes under the seat something difrent from other 600's and that prices ranges to raise some eye brows

May 18th is when I get back.I have to wait until the 20th, because the shop is closed on Mondays. But on the 20th, I'm gonna have to make a command decision. While I'm gone, I'm going to see about test-driving some bikes. Does anyone know how shops feel about letting people test-drive their bikes?

Just go to the dealer and test all them out.
What you hear from others are true about the Ninja's, so this year 03 is a big come back for them. I'm not saying this cuz I'm biased. Before I got my 9, I was looking into the gixxers 750.
All I can say, is test all them out and pick what's suits you the best.
Good Luck!

Here is the problem... Like I've said, I've ridden dirt bikes. I've never driven a street bike, much less a crotch-rocket. So if I DID test drive one, I would be nervous as hell. (I already have my permit) Do the stores mind you coming in there just to test-drive? Because bikes can be damaged a little easier than cars. Do they not worry about what you do when you test-drive it?

If they won't let you drive it, just sit on it. See how the posture and ergonomics on each bike. I also look at the gauge if it's highly visible. Mostly all bikes have digital gauge now. I 600 Kawi's has that shift light, but don't like the digi tach.
Price also play into consideration and since this is your first bike. I'd go for the cheapest one since they all gonna feel the same on HP and fun category.

I'm about to leave here in 30 minutes to see about destdriving some of them. I think I'm going to make a decision today, so if they don't have the one I want, it can be ordered and at the shop by the time I get back. I don't want to waste any time waiting for a bike to be transfered after I'm back home and ready to go.
Yeah, I don't like the digital tach either. But it's all gravy.

I think Gixxer's and R6's are the only "analog" tach's left. I agree on disliking the digital gauge.
Me personally... I like to watch the needle spin.

I just got back from the dealer.. The ninjas are SOOO uncomfortable, im 5'10" and the posture killled my crotch and back. I like the CBR and GSXRs seating hellova lot better. Good luck with any bike you choose they are all tight.

Re: What '03 bike to get? (OnlyNod)
I just got back from the dealer and they said that they can't allow people to test-drive the bikes, for the simple fact of liability. I did check out those bikes and I still like the ninja. I'm 6'1" and it didn't feel that uncomfortable. I REALLY wish I could have ridden it. I put $500 down, so they can get the blue one that I want.
Now, I have to wait until I get back to get my bike. That is going to suck! I was supposed to spend a few days hanging out in New Olreans before I come back. I think I might have to just cut some time out, in order to get home to ride my bike. hehehehe

Nice! good choice instead of getting the 6RR.
You can always put corbin seats for little comfort. That's what I got on mine and definitely helps on long driving.
