Because 90% of people who buy sportbikes are spec sheet racers. When they see the $$$ they would drop on an Ape vs. a Japanese 1000 with more hp and less weight that would save a couple bucks.....well its an obvious choice for them. how do you think the gsxr1000 got so popular .
Personally I could see myself owning any rsv before any gsxr or zxr.

Ahhhh, now that's a nice.
get some suspension work done and you are going to be in heaven. The R Ohlins will bolt right on, but even those should be worked on a little

Re: went to look at some apes (The Hooligan)
ape vs. ducati quick comparo
Aprillia vs. Ducati
*Pros
-more torque
-more top end
-more comfortable seating position, really feels like your sitting inside the bike
-great reliablilty
-good looks
-better suspension than my 748 and 916...and I don't even have the R version
-better handling....serious it feel a bit more planted and confidence inspiring
-Lots of extras like a clock and lap timer....ducati no have
*Cons
-not as sexy....oh its sexy just not as sexy
-higher center of gravity, which can make the rear step out a bit too easily
-No single sided swing arm
-sometimes TOO much torque
-Fairings dont come off so easy
DUCATI vs. Aprilia RSV
*Pros
-sexy as hell
-dry clutch if that's your thing...I loved it.
-Very easy to tear down and work on
*Cons
-reliabilty sucks
-6000 mile services that run you $500-700
-Always leaves you wanting just a bit more power
-Bad electronics
-torture rack seating position
-Gives you the hot *** syndrome...undertail exhaust gets very hot...getting carbon cans are a MUST
Bottom line.....DUCATIS FOR SHOW APES FOR A PRO!

Re: went to look at some apes (Mr.Chow)
i dunno how big you are, but at 6ft 205, i found i fit much better on the Aprillia
I felt like i made the Monster disapear beneath me, and i could just barley fold myself up to fit on my 916.
The Tuono and RSV have so much room to move around. I went with the Tuono becuase it is super comfy, and i like the naked look
With so much torque and an upright seating postion, you jsut need to rember to lean forward before opening it up lol
Oh one thing i do find, is the Tuono will shake it's head some times. I never had either of Ducs show any sign of head shake.
like accelerating over a hill and the front end comes up, when it lands it tends to wiggle.
A Ohlins steering damper should have been standard, not the useless Sachs piece of crap.

Re: went to look at some apes (zc911)
im 6'3 185 and fit great on the monster but havent had a chance to sit on a 749, thats what i was interested in.
but theres the same aprilia for sale locally in red and it seems like its a sweet bike but i wonder what its maintenance/valve adjustments are like.
i love my 600rr but i sorta want something you dont see on the road and im looking at a 675 daytona,rc51, or 749, and im leaning towards the 675 cause i wanna try a triple out.
