I've been thinking of moving on from my FZ6. After two years and almost 8000 miles, I've been thinking about moving on. Its fast enough, but the suspension, lack of low end power are making me think about moving up. I've got some different bikes in mind. I ride mostly street, plenty of commuting, and plan on continuing to do a few trackdays a year.

Stick with the FZ6

I have ridden big Vtwin bikes before and liked the way they rode. Relaxed power band, never needed to wind it out much. I like not having to shift as much. I rode a mulitstrada and liked it, however it maintenance costs make me think twice. I know the air cooled two valve engine isn't bad, but I put on about 4000 miles a year and I would rather not spend the money. An SV1000 would ease my costs, but it doesn't have the nice suspension like the duck. I figure both would perform okay at the track.

I have thought about a sportbike and I am reluctant, because of their aggressive body positioning would make daily riding not as much fun, but a daytona would look and sound great and have good midrange that I could enjoy. I was thinking an '04-06 R1 would be nice as well, but maybe to much for the street.

I would like something that's nice all around, that I can live with on a daily basis and enjoy. Anyone with experience on these bikes or other choices?

I was very unimpressed with the fz6 for it's lack of power and fun. But for commuting and it's comfort, it's much better than a sportbike.

I'd suggest putting some sprockets on it and maybe an exhaust and a power commander. As for the suspension, I'm sure there are plenty of options out there to improve it. I think if you sell the bike and get a sportbike for commuting, you still won't be happy. The fz6 is a good commuting platform, but it could use some upgrades.

One option with the mediocre SV suspension would be to swap out for a GSXR. It is almost a complete swap with only a few minor mods needed. I am in the process of doing one currently. It can be done for ~ $1000. I got mine for less because I bought it piece by piece on ebay as good deals arose. Just my .02.

The suspension just seems harsh, I've moved through the race tech websit and it seems like my weight is on target for front and rear. Short of getting a penske shock and some emulators there's not much I can do. I did some reasearch on the R6 front end, you need some parts that are no longer avaiable. I have a slip on, but it doesn't do much for power and I'm not interested in doing a sproket swap for increase rpms when I'm just cruising. I don't see a PC doing much.

I'm going to start to look into this. Are you doing it to an 650 or 1000? I've seen people swapping out on a 650, but never a 1000. Also I have a rule about throwing good money towards bad; I don't do it. I'm not to interested in modding out a bike, when I know I'm not ever going to get what I put into it.

out of your list i would choose the 675 cause thats the only one i really like, but commuting wouldnt be great.

if you want something good for touring/commuting and can still take the twisties id recommend a vfr. had 2 of em and are absolutely great bikes, and its a v4. great mid range and nothing sounds better than a v4 with a slip-on.

don't want a nekkid bike? b/c street triple would be better every day bike than D675.

street triple R will come with all of the D675's adjustable suspension and brake goodies.

or, you could buy used stuff off of daytona owners (like the shock)

you could also get a speed triple.

the daytona isn't a terrible everyday rider. you get used to the body position on the bike. Biggest thing is getting used to the rake, once you do it's pretty comfy. i did some pretty long (300+ mile) rides on the 675 and wasn't too much worse off than i would have been on my f4i.

ive sat on the 675 and was pretty comfortable for being 6'3/6'4. it seems like the clipons are only a lil lower than on my 600rr.

im trying to get a test ride as ive never ridden a triumph before. they were gonna let me take a speed triple out so maybe ill have some luck with the 675

Yeah I've had the VFR thought before, but they seem like tanks, I guess thats not all bad.
