have you tried signing up for a class yet? Around here they fill up like 2-3 weeks in advance

and you dont need a week, for me it was one night class and 2 mornings on the weekend

I'm a noob too and looking to pick up a used ninja 500 as my first bike. Won't get the bitches at starbucks like a 600ss will, but its far more forgiving when it comes to making n00b mistakes either with the throttle or brake

I saw a Mary Kay pink Cadillac today. At first I thought it was some rap star trying to be gangsta or whatever. Then I remembered Mary Kay.

How about this thing. Its about 5 min from my house. Nada says $200-600 in fair-good condition

Might be able to walk away with it for just a couple hundred bucks (def no more than 1000)

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/mcy/636760202.html

How much power did these things have?

more than enough power for a beginner . be prepared to spend at least that much in replacement parts though

it should last you long enough to where you'll get 'bored' with it and ready to upgrade anyway. then unload it on another poor, unsuspecting sap

meh, its my first bike, I'd rather get something newer and dead reliable

It could be golden or it could be a lemon, I don't really want to be the one to find out.

my ninja 500 search continues, looking at 3 different ones, hopefully I can strike a decent deal. resale is pretty good on them so I won't lose much anyway (as long as I don't dump it)

UCB, the NADA values are WAY off of what the actual going market value is for bikes. I'd say $1300 would be a nice starting offer. But several hundred dollars, are you crazy?

I was thinking the same thing. I would definitely pay 1000 for that. If nothing else, just to keep around for friends to ride.
