That's great that you just got up and did it. Many people will say they wanna do what you're doing someday but few will ever try. Good job man! You're an inspiration to the adventurer in all of us. Ride safe and stay away from the truck stops muahahahah!

Dammit, I did have Starbucks today at a rest stop.
I've got many a 33 notch on my riding belt. You best believe I added one more on my way out.

whats it like riding with all that gear though? i guess you get used to it after 5min?</TD></TR></TABLE>
My first mistake was packing too much into my backpack. It killed my back pretty quickly. After I moved some of it to my duffel bag, my back didn't hurt as much. My lower back still aches something wicked though. I'm pretty much doing this on a race bike...Woodcraft rearsets, Vortex clip-ons, Ohlins shock, and Traxxion forks raised 10mm. I found a pretty good sitting position today that takes a lot of the strain off of my back so we'll see how it goes.
Other than that the extra gear on the tail just makes it feel like you've got a passenger.

I hope you mean all the gear packed on the bike and not the protective gear he's wearing.

Have you tried putting a bag or something on top of the tank bag? That way you can lay on it and take some strain off.
On long highway drones, I'll lean my left arm on the tank.

If you make it as far as North Dakota you will be bored as all hell. The eastern side of ND and SD are worthless for twisties but great for pounding out the miles. Go to the west side of the two states and you will hit the Black Hills. There are awesome roads all around the area. There are even a few corkscrew bridges by Mount Rushmore. The other area in SD to ride is Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills, very scenic and twisty. The good thing for you is that Sturgis is over so you will have most of the roads to yourself.
Ride safe and enjoy every moment of your trip!

Ok, finally finished the video. Not much to report on today. Most of my ride was highway miles and then the weather got pretty bad and forced me to crash at a hotel. I did manage to hit the NFL Hall of Fame though. Here's the video of everything so far:

I'm in Portage, Indiana now. Tomorrow I plan on hitting Chicago and riding up to Wisconsin to take a tour of the Miller brewing factory. I'm a Miller man so why not?
Will probably have to walk around some and grab lunch around town before I hop back on the bike.

wow, you truely are living the dream. this seems like the beginning to a good movie or autobiography. i mean how many times has something happened in all of our lives good or bad and you just want to jump on your bike and ride away as celebration or to just get away from it all makin your plans as you go. ive done that but end up on a 4 hour ride on my usual favorite roads. mad respect to you and i hope this is the greatest excursion you have ever embarked on

ahhh cool. For a backpack, if you ahve onbe that has the extra belt that goes around your mid section, not just the shoulder straps, that makes a HUGE difference.
stay safe and have fun

Except for the far southern part of the state, Indiana is horribly boring, I don't recommend driving through it...same for IL too.
