So when it's all said and done insurance is going to cut me a check for $5,000 and I can buy the bike back for $1500. If I bought the bike back I'd be left with $3500 to spend on it as I please. Maybe dump $2000 into it and keep the $1500? My fear is that although I can put the bike back to 100% mechanical working order for a few hundred bucks - what do I do when I find out theres more wrong with the bike that we didn't know about in the first place??? They say the rear upper subframe (the tail) is tweaked maybe a 1/2 inch. They showed me what they were talking about and I was hard pressed to actually notice. They assured me it wasn't going to affect the handling nature of the bike at all and it didn't need to be straightened out.

As you can see all I "have" to buy are new levers (front brake lever snapped off) and rearsets (right peg / brake completely snapped off). Not a bad deal considering I wanted to upgrade those parts anyway. The exhaust is functional (no holes or anything) although I'll probably pick something up as it's pretty horrendous. Might buy a double bubble wind screen, but it's not really necessary.

The plastics are far from horrible other than that 8" long crack in the upper fairing I think I could sand/bondo everything and slap on a decent spray paint job for $100 myself.

So what do you guys think? What would you do? Should I just take the 5 grand and put it towards something newer - or should I Buy it back, buy some nice parts for it and walk away with a $1000 - $2000 in my pocket when it's all said and done?

Can you take the bike to a shop you trust to get the frame checked? Or maybe go with a mechanic from said shop to check it out?

This shop is the closest I'm going to get to a shop I trust. I've only dealt with them a couple times but they're really good guys. They assure me the frame is straight - it's just the rear upper sub frame that's minimally bent. Hell, for all I know it was bent when I bought it two years ago.....

I don't really see any indicator that would suggest that the subframe should be bent. Maybe the inpact on the exhaust jarred it just right without bending or breaking the passenger hanger.

That would be my guess. As you can see (or maybe not) the frame/swing arm never touched the ground. I was taking a right turn and was on my knee hard - so the bike only fell a few inches. Slid for a while on the right side, at some point it flipped to the other side and slid some more - but it definitely never tumbled or flew through the air as nothing is broken other than the levers on the right side from the initial impact, the cracked right fairing and the smashed exhaust. I would think for the frame to be tweaked or bent something else on the bike would have to be pretty smashed, broken or missing as the impact would have had to be pretty serious.

Thats a easy fix long as nothing isn't bent take a look at my old f4i took about a grand and some ebay shopping and it was perfect.





To this in about a month took rest and pocketed it

Buy it back, and you could build that into a nice track bike for $2-2500 (inculding the bike). Then if you dump it again it won't hurt so bad.

I lowsided my 600RR back in June and was able to buy it back from the insurance company for $800. Only needed a few fixings and was ready to go back to the track within 3 weeks. I suggest you buy it back, fix what you absolutely need to, then track it.

You will come out with about $2500-3000 that you can put towards a daily-rider.

Might be but the F4i has a very sturdy frame aswell as other honda bikes. Never really heard of them cracking braking. I've seen quite many Suzuki frames have problems.

That's less than a $1000 fix, mines looked a lot worse and fixed it up myself and it's still good. But i'd probably leave it as a commuter/track bike, no twisties as you can't trust if the frame is bent or not..

it depends on your plans. you'll have a pain trying to sell that bike with a salvage title, but if you're planning on track use or keeping it indefinitely as a commuter, I would buy it back.

If you crash on the twisties because of the failed structural integrity of the bike youre more likely to get seriously injured, where the track is more controlled...and i dont know about your commute but it's mostly straight for me, and not much could go wrong if youre riding normally.

I guess for some people this can be the case. Personally, if the frame was bent I would not ride it anywhere past my local 7-Eleven. I push it much harder on the track and hit much higher speeds as well vs. what most people (including myself) do in the canyons. Frames don't bend easily and most any shop would be able to eyeball it and check for cracked welds, etc. Sounds like the OP has done so already, so no sense it taking it further

Sorry to hear about your tie down problem, but you should probably just leave. Stop registering new screen names. Stop telling people on your 675 board to register screen names. Suck it up and buy new tie downs. Payback is a bitch and if he did something wrong, he'll have it coming. Who knows, maybe this is your payback.

Payback for? Sorry, I have never stolen anything in my life. I'm not that sort of low life, thankfully I work hard for everything I have, and scammers make me SICK.

I went out of my way to help a fellow rider out, and I'm repaid with having stuff stolen.

This guy is no better than the scum that stole my first civic.

I would fix the f4i with used oem parts (cheapest fix), sell it, then buy something newer. She's been tainted.
