Default Malaysian Grand Prix

R.I.P. Marco Simoncelli. An up and coming moto gp star passed this morning due to fatal injuries from a crash on lap 2 at Sepang. Simoncelli low sided but got hit by 2 other racers unintentionally of course. Died a short time after at the hospital from his injuries. Again R.I.P.

I am shocked. He was exciting to watch and I pegged him to be a future world champ once he got onto the repsol honda team. Watching the vid when the helmet comes off and he's sliding on his face sends chills down my body!

I don't understand how the accident. If you watch here:
http://www.gpupdate.net/en/videos/15...cking-footage/

it's a right hander and it looks like he lowsided to the left. How did he come back on track still lowsiding from left to right and still be on the bike?

he's not on the bike, he's sliding alongside it, hands still on the bars. the tires are still gripping while the bodywork is on the ground grinding as well as his suit. if he had let go of the bars, or levered the tires off the ground he would had slid off to the left instead of having the bike steer him into colin and vale's path. i think he realized that when he came off that the tires were still in contact with the ground and he was still with the bike. maybe he thought he could save it. maybe his right knee was pinned under the bike in a way that kept the tires on the ground. who knows.

i hope some kind if innovative safety change comes out of this. maybe the tires will give out in a way that prevents them from gripping the track when the lean angle is so extreme that this could happen. way over 90% of the time the guy harmlessly slides off track in a tangent line away from oncoming riders.

i'm really upset over this and can barely look at my motorcycle right now.

I was so shocked to see that he was killed when I went to see the results of the race. Im still in shock

I saw the footage and it looks like he was pinned under the bike. It wasnt a bad crash, just a lowside so he was probably waiting to come to a stop before he picked it up and got going again. Colin hit him so hard his helmet came off although edwards did his best to avoid the crash. Just a terrible terrible situation

RIP Marco Simoncelli. Such a shame, was an outstanding rider and as the season progressed he was becoming so much more consistent.

Looks to me like he somehow fell off the bike, got pinned under it, and then the bike took him across the track. I couldn't even imagine what it must have been like to be Colin. Watch yourself smash into someone's body, fall off into the grass, get up and see his helmet sitting there next to your bike. Val was shaking his head as he rode away too, it seems that both of them were really shaken up by the incident. God knows I would have been.

Such a sad day for motoGP, and a sad week for motorsports in general. :/

I feel exactly the same. I took some photos when I was at Laguna Seca this year and made a little tribute. Enjoy.

From what ive read thats being investigated as to how and why his helmet came off but just by looking at the vid you can see edwards front tire get Simoncelli's neck first...impact probably ripped the helmet off. Edwards tried his hardest to avoid hitting him. I agree with another member here....cant look at my bike either.

1be just by looking at the vid you can see edwards front tire get Simoncelli's neck first

Are we talking about the same crash?

top pic note - MS has black leathers below the waist and white above
center pic note- MS on the ground you can see his full torso between 5 and 46
bottom pic note - you can see MS right bicep under 46's foot and MS hand
up by 46's leg.

from these snapshots it looks like rossi was the one that ran over his neck, and this actually makes sense because he wasn't knocked off the bike from the accident, edwards made a more direct hit to marco's body thus transferring some of the impact to the bike and knocking edwards from his bike

this was a totally a freak accident and there is no way rossi could have avoided, but i believe if rossi had've evaded marco he would still be alive
