Different strokes for different folks.

Would you guys avoid a Speedtrials event because they don't make their drivers wear long sleeves? Or how about if you were at a track that allowed an S2000 on track without a rollbar? Would you just pack up and go home?

Hmm, I thought NESBA allowed double jeans for the Intro Rider groups (below Beginner, they just ride together for the morning sessions) only. Perhaps your local region is more lax

a person that is in love with motorcycles and their performance would not miss a track date, even if there was a guy riding around in a gorilla outfit..who gives a ****? usual track is 1.3 miles long, so my question is, why u wouldnt go there if one rider was wearing jeans? Its like saying i wouldnt drive on the expressway with the guy in the car next to me not wearing a seat belt!!!

I wouldn't do the trackday because wearing jeans on track is genuinely not safe. I spend as much time as I can at my local track, Summit Point, finances permittng. If you think that the hugely increased risk of losing your legs and rashing your upper body thanks to the lack of connection between your pants and jacket is worth it then I think you're a fool. But sure, that's your decision. Why wouldn't I bother with that sanctioning body? Because if they're letting you out on their track time in that kind of pathetic excuse for safety gear then it says something about their ability to comprehend what is and what is not safe on track. We rely on these organizations to let us have our fun in the most safe way possible. If you don't understand that then YOU are the one that shouldn't be on track and I most definitely would not want to spend any time on the tarmac with you, it implies that you don't posses the judgement to figure out what's an acceptable action and what isn't. Some rules are there to protect you from yourself.

Posting a picture like that up, though, you should be prepared for the reception you got.

Calling names because they see the value of safety gear? The "safety bandwagon"? Grow up. You're calling people names because they see the value in doing something intelligent. What the hell is that? I nearly missed my last track day because I couldn't get my pucked leather in time.

Somehow I sarted riding for the wrong reasons, though? That's kind of a weak personal attack, unprovoked at that.

I am not sure what double jeans they are but they are not really that good. Most race schools/trackdays will only let you out with two piece zip together suits or one piece.

I would go there but might not go out. If they the organizers dont take safety that seriously then what are they going to do if I was to fall off? It shows pretty poor standards IMO.

There is no way that any of you can tell me that after setting up and paying for a trackdate that you wouldn't find some way to ride if your suit got trashed...

Granted, double jeans isn't the "ideal" riding attire, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than just jeans or the ripped-to-**** suit. Jesus, I'd much rather ride with a guy with double jeans than the idiots that pass us everyday on the highway with their flip-flops, wife beater, and cut-offs. Seems he did the best he could under the circumstances.

Just how exactly does that relate to his "owned tire"? I'm still trying to figure that one out.....that does suck though! When I moved to Cleveland, I rode about 230 miles from where I used to live. Yeah, made it 229 miles and got a nail in the back tire.

I still don't believe you were in anything other then the try the track group. But if you were riding the beginner group with double jeans on then I wouldn't go near that track org. If I was already there I would probably ride but I'd never knowingly ride one of there events if I knew beforehand. When you're at a track day safety should be the number one concern.

Most of us on here have done track days and use every excuse to get to the track. Those same people are the ones who preach safety because we have seen what happens when people do go down at high speeds.

I think you're just trying to make yourself seem like a little more of a track junkie then you actually are.

I think you're the one that didn't read.

I already said that I didn't think my new leather would come in time for my last track day and that it didn't then I wouldn't have gone out. I would rather take a $150 day's loss than an exponentially higher hospital bill and the very real possibility of losing my legs.

Same thing happened on my bike and I did the same as SIson21 and used it as an excuse to put some good tires on the bike, i'd highly recommend pilot powers to ya if your considering replacing your tires ...

sucks about your tire, i walked out to my car today and my driver's side rear was flat, and there is a hurricane coming, and its raining like hell. so i won't be fixing my **** for a while.

The forum absolutely savaged that guy who was doing shirtless wheelies the other day, but when you posted your own pics a while back of you doing wheelies in sleeveless tee and no helmet, everyone came to kiss your *** about it. Not criticizing you by any means, but just pointing out one obvious example of the double standard.

The more you post, the more you walk on water, and it's sad. If Luke posted pics of himself doing naked wheelies, he'd get a great response. But people think it's cool to call someone out who they don't think will have people that will personally stick up for them.

This thread only deteriorated because in the 7th post the creator decided to throw up a picture of him riding down a paddock. I'm not sure exactly why he did it, maybe it was in an attempt to impress us with his track skills, I'm not sure. If that post never happened it would have been a simple thread about him getting a nail in his tire. **** luck.

Instead it turns into him attempting to defend double jeans as proper safety equipment.

Wearing jeans on the street? Sure, wear whatever your comfortable with because most of us can control ourselves and stay out of dangerous situations 99% of the time. Riding within your limits goes a long way. I don't think anyone would have jumped at him if it was a picture of him in a gas station.

Double jeans on the track? Idiotic to even try and defend that they are safe or that it should be allowed. It's an entirely different environment then the street. Every rider has the intentions of going fast and pushing right up against their limit. Proper gear should be required because you are putting yourself into a dangerous situation and every precaution should be taken to prevent you from injury.

There were well over 10 yellow flags last Monday at VIR. In double jeans every one of them would have been a red with an ambulance ride to the hospital, including myself. Can anyone honestly say that they think jeans on a racetrack is a smart thing? I don't think there would have been one full 20 minute session without a red flag. Who the hell would pay for that?

I think established members don't get jumped on as much when they do dumb **** (which we all do) because they know it's somewhat unaccepted so they go about posting it with the right approach. Newer members seem to attempt to defend the action no matter how wrong or dangerous it is. I try not to be too much of a gear **** but it's hard to watch especially when it's something that's clearly putting the person in immediate danger.

I don't think you truly understand the importance of gear until you see a rider bounce down some asphalt at 100+ mph. When he stands up seconds later and smacks himself in the head out of anger for his mistake you realize how remarkable gear really is.

Look, at a certain point you can't blame the rider. If you disagree with the organization's rules that allow him to wear double jeans, then why does he bear the brunt of that? Just don't sign up for any of their events and all will be well. If he wants to gamble with his knees, it's his decision. He's not breaking any rules, except those of the MC forum apparently.

I think thats crap.

I would be pretty sure that if F4 had posted about a gear related issue and wheelies I would have said something against it. But then when you actaully have an opinion you get a bitched at and people try to use the 'you think your popular' line. I dont really give a fxck if people go sliding down the road on their heads with no helmet on to be honest, but if your looking for kudos for it forget it. There is enough bad press for the tree huggers to use in their efforts to ban bikes and I am damned if irresponsible riders get any thanks from me.

But.....I'd rather have smelly leathers and have to take a shower, than having to have the dead skin scrubbed off my body when I go down in a tshirt and jeans.
