Hmm, I will.
I was pretty much set on the ICON Pursuit jacket, since the entire thing is perf'd, not just the armpits or torso. It's not very expensive, so I won't shoot myself over buying something I'm only going to wear from May-September. Dainese = $$$ but awesome quality.

Re: Call me a squid... (Indiana Jones)
I rode home in sandals once...****** sucked.
Shift lever got stuck between my toes and the sandal, and i accidentally threw it into neutral about eleventy billion times. My other foot caught my rear brake once, that was fun
And i've ridden in shorts/tees/hoodies/jeans a bazillion times. If i'm going out to ride twisties, i'm def gearing up, but just little 2/3 minute trips around town / to work, its just impractical. And you get used to the sting of bugs, gravel, small children that you get pounded with while on the freeway, and riding in a tee just feels sooooooooo nice

I had to ride in sandals for about 20 miles once.
The kicker: it was my first time on a bike. In the rain. Up a mountain. I'm really not shitting you.
I rode in sandals all the time on my scooter. Even bare feet. It was awesome.

**** that, even if i'm riding in kswiss, i just think about how much it would suck to spill in these and have my ankles sliding across the ground.

Just looked at it. It's a textile jacket. I have an Alter Ego right now, but probably selling it to get a perf. leather one. No reason to replace the Alter Ego with another ventilated textile jacket.
Then once the weather gets cold I'll get myself a nice black Vanson.

vanson rocks, i feel a lot better in my vanson 1pc. when i go out.
the only motorized thing i ever rode with flip flops was an 88cc xr50. it was awsome; throttle in 1 hand and a nice cold beer in the other.

That's because you didnt see me riding . Had on my jacket (leather sleeves/shoulders, rest is textile), boots, knee guards, gloves, and jeans (textile pants on backorder ). Only got hot at stoplights, as long as I was moving it was very comfortable. I won't sacrifice protection for being a little cooler. But, that being said, it's your skin and not mine.

Re: Call me a squid... (Brian*STi)
Brian, I dunno about these knee guards we bought.
I did some impact scenarios on my carpet, and if you're sliding forward on your knees those things could definitely come loose. I may try to exchange them and get some ICON field armor instead.

Re: Call me a squid... (Ross R)
They're pretty much for the first impact, which could generally be the hardest. You could always wrap some athletic tape over the velcro if you're concerned about it coming loose. I have some TiMax textiles on the way though, these were a temporary solution.

I usually dont wear a jacket on hotter days, when im commuting. If i plan on doing any kind of agressive riding, i gear up.
Its irritating to me when people preach about gear. Im not a newbie, and i know whats gonna happen if i go down. Im not a pretty boy, so as long as the skin evenually grows back i'll be ok

Not concerned about that - I'm concerned about the fact that the knee protectors don't velcro at all, and when your knees bend the tops of them are exposed. I understand that adds flexibility since it's dirt-bike gear, but if you slide the wrong way across the pavement, those knee guards could flop away from your knees and leave them unprotected.
Wonder if I can return them...

You don't exist in a vaccuum and your actions have effects on others. Ever wonder why motorcycle insurance is so high?

Chris, in general principle, you're right. But not in this case. How does gear affect this?
I agree with Mr. 420 over there, for the record.
I'd love for someone to demonstrate how gear affects anyone else but the person who decides to wear it or not wear it. Aside from the higher medical bills of riders who don't.
Insurance rates for motorcycles are high because they attract people who do stupid ****, and because bikes are so easy to total and damage. Not because people don't wear gear. Unless someone has some definitive proof that it does. But then, an insurance company would never give you a break on your rates if you wore your gear, would they?
My take on it is, if you want to be safe, don't ride a motorcycle.
For pete's sake, the Virginia Motorcycle Operator's Manual says that if you can't wear leathers while riding, "denim does the job at a more affordable price."
It puzzles me when people try to draw some connection between people who don't wear gear, and people who do stunts in traffic and cause accidents.

Exactly. In the end it is your decision. If you crash and tear off all your skin, you should understand that the blame is all 100% on you. You made the choice to live dangerously and you now have to face the consequences. In think as long as you have this mindset then no one should say **** about how you are riding

Re: Call me a squid... (Ross R)
word
like i said, its VERY rare i leave my jacket at home and its literally only for a few blocks....true thats when it can happen, but so could getting nailed at 70+
insurance rates DO NOT go up cause i left my joe rocket jacket at home...they go up because jackasses go out and kill themselves on highways/mountain roads and the bike is only $10K so most accidents that cause injury also end up with a salvaged titled bike, meaning the insurance company is forking out cash left n right to newbie's on R1's
a standard traffic accident involving a 24 year old male being hit and killed by a car not checking its blindspot is not gonna make insurance go up, even if the dude wasn't wearing his gear...BTW, insurance covers your BIKE, not your GEAR...they could give two ***** if you wore a helmet, let alone some leathers
if you ate **** n died and the bike walked out without a scratch, they wouldn't think twice to mail next month's bill to your folks

Kinda. I'm sure motorcycle insurance as far as bodily damage coverage is a lot higher in Florida vs. other states which have helmet laws. I have no definitive proof as you say but that's just an educated guess.

If you ride like a sane person and wear protective gear I think you can be "safe."
Only problem is a bike can sometimes turn a sane person into one crazy **** on two wheels! or one!
But I do agree that with motorcycles, you need to go in with acknowledging that it can be and often times is a very dangerous hobby.

I simply cannot imagine riding a bike with no helmet.. that's just insane.
Anyway if they require you to have life insurance in states with no helmet law, that means more $$ out of the pocket of riders. So lack of helmet = higher overall insurance rates by way of required life insurance in no helmet law states. And in states with helmet laws they don't require life insurance (not in va anyway), which means lower overall insurance rates for riders in these states due to no life insurance requirement. Makes sense.

Not in PA either. Im curious as to where you heard this.
Riding without gear is one thing, but i personally never ride without a helmet.
Muscles, bone and skin usually grow back or can be patched back up pretty decent,
but a bare skull isnt gonna fare too well to the shock of being bounced off of
concrete a few times. Even safety aside, wind and bugs suck without a helmet.
