I would have suggested MSF first, too, just in case he doesn't like riding.

You should be able to get by with minimal gear for the MSF to see if riding is really for you

Re: (1bar)
i know ridings for me, ive always love bikes but never got the chance to ride one untill recently ive rode my friends little 50cc and moped and **** and my other friends 150 dirtbike. 3 weeks ago i got a chance to ride a bike for the first time...an R1 that my cousin just picked up....he had all the gear and were almost the same built so everything fit damn near perfect. i took it for like a 15 min ride around his neighborhood and that just reassured me that riding is for me, theres nothing else like it and i was only going 30 and that was my first time.
as for insurance, gear and maintanence i know i have to have all that and i didnt forget. i have it set in my head that ill have to pay maybe 500 a month for a bike and insurance but i have to see what kind of rate my insurance gives me. and for gear im expecting to pay over 1000 easily

Damn, so your expecting to pay roughly 3600 a year in insurance? 2 years you bought yourself another r6! Well whatever you decide to do goodluck to ya. With my experience bills are not fun, it may be wiser to start on something you can buy outright and soemthing insurance will be fairly cheap on.
cheers

Re: (1bar)
2 years ago when I was 18 I got a 15K loan on a new rsx I bought from the dealership. As long as you have a decent down payment and are makign a steady income you'll be fine. You'll get a loan a lot easier from the dealer then you would from a credit union or something. A big thing they will look at is how long you have been at your job. make sure to take the MSF course and get proper gear. Insurance prices very from every company. When I was 18 I was paying $28 a month to fully insure my 01 r6 on top of another car. If I were to have done the bike by it's self it would have been around $60 a month. If you can't get the loan just get some one to cosign it. I'm 20 now and my credit is amazing once I paid off the 15K loan. So in a way your making a smart decision as long as you can afford it.
